Bought this car in August then started hearing a squeaking in the front end, found out all the ball joints were bad this will cost 200 dollars per control arm. Plus two upper ones adding up to a total of about 800 doallars to fix . this is ridiculous how can dodge not recall this its their fault they should pay for it not me!!!!!!!!

Thought my Durango just needed shocks/struts or maybe bushings to fix the horrible squeaking that comes from my front end. After further investigation and inspection, come to find out that this is a common, non-warranty and non-recall problem with the 1999 Durango front end that may cost as much as $2000 to fix if you need new tires and ball joints like mine does as well as control arms and bushings. My wife bought this truck while I was in Iraq as we had another kid to add to our family of six. She swears that her and her father did not hear it when they bought it. Maybe it just started but she bought it from a private owner and I am very dissapointed with the way Dodge is handling this issue.

Durango SLT 5.2L

As per previous complaint; the entire front end of this truck is apparently built out of used soda cans and rubber bands. I have spent over $2000 on the front and now wheel are loose again and I am afraid to drive it. Over financed/no funds/stuck. I cannot believe Dodge is so cheap and they will not own up to the shoddy construction of these vehicles.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WEBSITE ! This is were I finally got the real deal about the problem . One shop took 45 minutes of greasing and bouncing the car up down to say they didn't know but it was probable the ball joints. They quoted me a price of 650.00. So I took it and the parts to my "home licensed mechanic" who told me NO its not the ball joints but its the Lower control arm ! Wow that costs 819.00 each side here at the dealer and 414.00 from the Auto---store. I purchased the car used so I don't know the history. I did have to have some bushings put in by the dealer before in order to get it aligned. The mechanic told me its a wonder the wheel didn't fall off but I don't know about that stuff. Anyway my car sounds like a squeaky mattress and that sucks. It looks like no matter how many times you get it fixed the noise returns. I saw another complaint about being heard by the neighbors before he even gets home and thats how my grand entrance is every where I go. Its annoying and embarrassing to have people looking at you like your're a parade. KNOW! I see its not safe either. I really didn't want to purchase another car but I guess its my only way out of this " UNSAFE PARADE OF NOISE -DISGRACEFUL SUV " ! D/C SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES INSTEAD THEY KEEP PUTTING OUT THE SAME GARBAGE DRESSED IN A NEW STYLE CAN ! And yes, I am a parent too! Thats why I bought the suv, I shouldn't went with the big family mini van!

My Durango is driving me crazy. There is sooo much squeaking and creaking coming from the front end. It is very embarassing to be driving a nice looking vehicle and it sound like an old wooden floor. It seems to be multiple types of squeaking and I have tried spraying all bushings and nothing stops the noises. I had it looked at by some shop and the guy said the bushings look good but it's probably some moisture in the control arm bushing. That's crazy. This is one problem Dodge definitely did'nt get right. Prior to the Durango,I had a 97 Dakota and it did the same exact stuff. After this,I will never own a Dodge again unless maybe they decide to do something about it,which I doubt.

Bought this vehicle and immediately found bad ball joint on left front, and had to replace the tire at my cost. returned to the dealer and the ball joints and upper control arms were replaced on both sides. I have had to replace the right side tire too. Later I found out these vehicles had been under investgation by NHTSA since back in july. Dealers should have to tell about safety defects I think. I have driven it 1500 miles in four months, only because I am afraid of it.
