The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While refueling the vehicle, gasoline began to spill from the fuel filler neck. The failure recurred whenever the contact attempted to refuel the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that the fuel tank assembly would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 58,000. The VIN was unavailable.

We get drenched with gasoline when we fill up our 2006 Durango gas tank. When the gas pump clicks off, gas shoots out from the fuel fill. In checking with Dodge, they have exact problem with their 2005 Durango, which was recalled. This 2006 needs to be recalled too. Very dangerous situation, not only for us, but for the next fuel customer who may be standing in a pool of gasoline from our Durango.

When refueling vehicle the gas will exit tank with force, spilling gas on ground, vehicle and operator. Potential explosion hazard, environmental damage, chemical burns and explosion injury. This started occurring at around 75,000 miles and happens at every fill up when topping off.

When recently filling the gas tank on our 2006 Dodge Durango slt with about 46K miles from near empty, about 1-2 cups of gasoline came spraying back out of the filler, and for the rest of the day the interior of the car had a strong gas odor, making my wife and two children nauseous. I have seen several other complaints of this on this website dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-Durango/190747-gas-fill-overflow-on-my-06-Durango-14.html.

  • 42,000 miles
I am the original owner of a 2006 Dodge Durango, I never had a problem until my mileage hit 40,000. My problem is when I filled my fuel tank the pump shuts off and gas would gush out of the tank. Everyone even strangers would tell me how dangerous this was, a spark from another car or static electricity could start a fire if this happened at the gas station it could be disastrous. The first few times this happened I ended up drenched with gas. I would then stand behind my Durango when fueling. And still end up smelling like gasoline because it was all over the ground, the vehicle, the handle and pump. I called my dealer explained what happens and was told there wasn't a recall on this spilling gas problem and if everything that went wrong had a recall they would make no money. Does a fire have to start or someone get hurt or die before Dodge steps up to the plate and accepts responsibility. I had my fuel tank replaced and was told "this problem was not caused from age, wear and tear it was a manufacture failure. The total cost for this was $1,600. Changed state from Alabama to California at the consumers request. 04/26/11 updated 05/06/11

Durango 4WD 8-cyl

  • 96,000 miles
2006 Dodge Durango, ever since time of purchase at 96,000 miles every single time I fill up at any gas station (have used over twenty different gas stations to try and remedy the problem) the gas pump will click off, and after waiting about 1 second there will be over a pint of gasoline discharge from the gas tank. This could cause a vehicle fire, and is a hazmat issue with the gasoline being discharged onto the ground on possibly the person filling the vehicle. Any quick google search results for 2006 Dodge Durango gas tank overflow shows thousands of results and multiple videos of the instance. Daimler Chrysler customer service states there is nothing that they can do for me, and my local dealership says that it is not covered under warranty. This needs resolved before a real accident happens and someone loses a life!

The contact submitted an email and requested to use the email, verbatim, as the submitted complaint: Since about 50K miles (now have 81K) we have experienced gas shooting out of the fill tube every time we fill the tank up. It has gone all over my wife's arm along with the side of the vehicle itself. Very dangerous issue. I understand there is a recall for '05's but not '06's. same issue so why not. Are they waiting for a death to occur. Dodge says they will not fix it unless I pay first to have a diagnosis and then I still have to pay $450 of the total bill! how about working thru Dodge/Chrysler to get this issue solved before it is too late. Thank you.

Whenever we try to fill gas the gas comes spraying back out going on the ground, on the side of the Durango and on us. We have tried numerous gas stations in several towns, different pumps at those stations and different kinds of gas. The result is always the same. Currently we try to guess how many gallons we can put in and try to stop the pump in time but this is a huge inconvenience. I can't imagine how many gallons of gas we have paid for that went everywhere but in the gas tank not to mention all the car washes we've paid for to wash the gas off the paint. We've even had gas station attendants approach us about the amount of gas on the ground.

Everytime I put gas in my tank and is almost full I get a shower of gas on me, the car, the floor. This is getting to be ridiculous, I have had to come home and change clothes because of the fuel spill. Are we waiting for someone to catch on fire or have someone killed before this issue gets resolved. The 2005 Durango has the same defect and it was recalled. Please anyone do something about it before somebody gets injured or killed.
