I think the water pump failed just outside of the 5 year warranty

Just as the front radiator failed just after 3 years on the car

A car that is just 5 years old with relatively low mileage should not suffer a water pump failure

The Dodge water pump failed instantaneously... one hour it was working the next it was totally gone... which is not normal. usually a water pump fails gradually over time so you can get it booked in and sorted. It happened so rapidly that I had to drive to the closest garage I could find and leave it to be fixed. Fortunately its an easy part though I specifically asked for a non-Dodge part as there are plenty of options and dodge is double the price for the same part - which is extortion.....

I took the vehicle for an oil change and while they were doing inspection, they found the leak and replaced the water pump under standard warranty.

Durango R/T 5.8L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,350 miles

Driving home from Costco, when I hear a cracking sound coming from my vehicle, and when I get home, I smell coolant. I open my hood and there is orange coolant at the bottom of my chassis. I look under the vehicle and see coolant spraying from my vehicle. I look at my gauge, and it’s above normal temp.

I get the vehicle towed. Dealership told me it is the water pump. Also told me there is an issue with a sensor in the transmission (separate issue). Vehicle is leased so everything is under warranty. But what a waste of a week due to Covid-19 limiting hours.
