CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 GMC Canyon has a significant trend of transmission problems.

Most owners reporting transmission problems with their 2015 Canyon report sluggish shifting or other similar problems with the truck not shifting properly. Although most of these 2015 Canyon trucks are still under warranty, it's not a good sign.

The GMC Canyon is mechanically identical to the Chevy Colorado.

My 2015 GMC Canyon sle pickup has a backup camera dimming problem. When backing out of my garage on a sunny day, the large display of what the camera sees behind the vehicle is bright and it is easy to see any objects located in the backup path until the vehicle reaches the location where the sun light falls on the dash. At that point the display dims to the extent where it is difficult to see any objects in the display. The dim display lasts for about 15 seconds when it instantly returns to full brightness as was visible in the garage. If one puts on sunglasses in the garage, in anticipation of sunlight outside, then the display dimming appears so severe as to not be able to see any objects in the display, until the display brightens after about 15 seconds. The word "objects" here means anything reasonably discernible on a typical driveway or roadway surface including children. The problem may be related to the light sensor on the dash used to automatically turn on lights in darkness, because when backing out of my garage at dusk the vehicle headlights are on and the backup camera display does not dim. Two videos showing the above problems at daylight and dusk are about 30 to 35 mb each and too large to upload here. The problem continues today.

I purchased this truck 3 months ago and it had around 9000 miles on it at the time of the incident. I was driving at around 25 mph when I noticed smoke coming from under my hood. I pulled over, shut the engine off, and popped the hood. I opened the hood and noticed the engine was on fire. Opening the hood just enraged it more. I slammed the hood shut, and got to a safe distance and called 911. Within minutes the truck was engulfed in flames. After the fire was put out, the firemen said it appeared to have started in the vicinity of the alternator. The bracket was melted off and all that was left of the alternator was a basket of copper. Everything minus the bed was on fire.

Almost immediately after initial start of vehicle, shifted from park to reverse and while backing out of garage, a message appeared in the driver information center (dic) that read: "service, brake assist, dismiss" - a few minutes later received two emails from onstar which read: An issue with the antilock braking system in your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab has been detected. An issue with the stabilitrak stability control system in your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab has been detected. Subsequently, visited selling dealership and they checked fuse in relation to tsb # pb-14669, NHTSA id # 10056603. Dealership found 30 amp fuse to already be in place. Cleared trouble code, but it has since displayed several times in the dic. Continue to receive several emails from onstar with subject line of "onstar vehicle health alert notification for your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab" - onstar has advised that these are "false email alerts" and that General Motors is working on a fix for this problem, but no update or fix is available at this time. No estimated date of resolution, and unknown exactly how serious this apparent safety issue might be.

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the failure occurred because the battery was not fully charged. Later, while driving the vehicle, the contact indicated that the battery saver light illuminated. After parking the vehicle, flames were noticed under the hood approximately 45 minutes later. The fire department extinguished the flames. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 590.
