I'm the original owner of a Honda Odyssey 2006 ex-L, I have religiously maintained it and have used Honda filters, oils and lubricants, have done oil changes every 7,500 per Honda maintenance schedule and replaced tranny fluid every 15,000 miles, especially after knowing this has been an issue with previous Odyssey's and current ones. At 52,000 miles I had to replace a broken motor mount (known issue that Honda won't acknowledge) thankfully extended warranty covered it. At 90,700 (my extended warranty expired at 85,200 miles) my transmission started making a whining noise (I have had 2 independent mechanics and a Honda dealership verify the tranny is going South). In addition to the motor mount and transmission issues, this vehicle has had recalls to replace front brake pads, brake master "O" ring, power steering pump and paint peeling. For a $33K vehicle, it sure is a lemon.

2006 Honda Odyssey bought used w/ approx 61,000 miles and 60,000 mile extended warranty, purchased last week of July 2010, breakdown 10/6/2010. Had shake while driving and was serviced, found to have problem with transmission, transmission fluid changed and problem resolved. Car was driven part way across country, 1200 miles, in the next 10 days, all highway miles. 20 minutes after stopping for lunch, while cruising on highway @ 70 mph, car had intermittent clicking noise coming from driver's side engine compartment. No warning lights were on @ this time and temp reading was normal. My husband took car off cruise control, noise stopped, he attempted to pass another vehicle, car lost all acceleration, check engine light blinked a couple times, he slowed, started safely moving to shoulder, clicking started, check engine light came on solid, temp gauge spiked to red, caron shoulder, no power. From first clicking noise to engine failure and first warning light was approx 1 minute. Dealer found car to have cracked engine, melted radiator, blown head gasket, no coolant or oil in engine. No original source for breakdown could be found even after complete engine teardown. Head gasket was not cause of breakdown. No oil leak, had oil change @ dealer prior to our purchase of vehicle, not yet due for routine service, oil life indicator gave 50% oil life 20 miles prior to breakdown. Honda notified and not concerned. Warranty co denied claim B/C no cause of failure found. Dealership that sold car is paying for new engine, radiator and any other repairs and will continue to seek reimbursement from warranty co. Search of Honda forums (edmunds.com) found many problems w/ oil consumption on 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey.

I bought a 2006 Honda Odyssey brand new with warranty and at 20,000 miles started complaining of a whining or humming noise after traveling distances over 30 minutes long. The weather did not seem to make a difference. I complained 5 separate times to the dealership, each time being turned away because they couldn't find an issue. After my warranty expired, they were able to tell me that my power steering pump had failed and after much talk with the dealership and Honda, they replaced it covering 75% of the cost. That was in October 2009. On March 15, the noise returned and I took it back to the dealership assuming it was my power steering pump. It was my power steering rack which after discussions with several other mechanics seems to be what the issue was all along. I now have to replace the entire power steering rack at a cost of $1500. I have tried to get help from Honda, but they claim it is not a warranty issue. There are hundreds of complaints about this very same issue online and Honda issued a service bulletin for all models 2005-2007 and some 2008 models for power steering pump failure. This is a larger issue and a recall of this entire system needs to be put out or more Honda owners are going to run into the issue I have. If I don't replace the power steering rack, fluid could pour out at any time and cause me to lose steering at any point. So that is why I am having it fixed immediately. I am looking for someone to take action on this. The Honda service bulletin which was revised in 2007, is bulletin number 07-005.

Transmission shudder on my 2006 Honda Odyssey. Miles is about 86000, took van to Honda dealer and was told torque converter was bad service manager said these vehicles have been known for shudder problems due to the fact that the vehicles weight was not matched to the transmission properly in design. Shudder happens at about 30-40 mph with a light engine load.

When driving in cold weather for a long distance, wheezing sound comes from steering wheel. Others have had this problem, they say it's a power steering pump, reservoir tank. It only has 57K miles, and already problems. Honda dealer said they couldn't duplicate the problem, that's because they didn't drive it for a while nor was it cold. It won't be covered under warranty since it's past the miles, but Honda makes a defective part(s) and the owner has to pay for their poor engineering.

I was closing the right sliding door on my 2006 Honda Odyssey when it suddenly reversed pinching and crushing my right arm. I used the exterior handle, pulled it once, and moved to the right rear of the vehicle. As I was passing by the moving door, I was rubbing against the minivan slightly. It gave an audible alert and immediately revered pinching my right bicep between the door and the side of the van.
