CarComplaints.com Notes: There's an emerging trend of transmission problem with the 2010 Elantra at fairly early mileage.

So far owners report having the transmission replaced under warranty but that won't hold up for much longer. It may be a bit premature but for now we're putting the "CLUNKER" rating on the 2010 Elantra just to be safe.

Speaking of being safe, you might not be unless Hyundai can figure out why their airbags aren't deploying.

59,600 miles in car. Parked car for night, next morning turned vehicle on and eps and ESC off lights were on. Vehicle had no power steering and was hard to turn if not moving. Recall on eps software was done 11 months ago. Took to dealership where problems were diagnosed as bad sensors. That's not bad until they tell you sensors themselves cannot be replaced and you need to have a complete new steering column installed at $2,500. Yes the car is 8 years old, but only 59,600 miles. Looking at complaints, this is a problem Hyundai should address.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. While driving various speeds, the steering coupler clicked and hesitated to turn. In addition, the steering wheel made a clunking noise while turning. South bay Hyundai (20433 hawthorne blvd, torrance, California 90503) diagnosed that the steering coupler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Rubber coupling failure in the motor driven power steering (mdps) assembly a $2 part with a $350 labor bill. Safety inspection station says this is a safety issue which may result in failure to pass inspection. Hyundai nevertheless maintains that it is not a safety issue (in an obvious attempt to prevent a recall). The part has failed just beyond warranty coverage. I'm soliciting guidance on how to cover repair costs for a poorly designed part that should be under recall and covered by the manufacturer. They recalled eps in 2015 and I wasn't notified. Now they told me it was steering column problem and wanted to charge me over $2000 for this. The dealer won't even use the existing extended warranty to fix my car. I am not the only one who has this problem and it is very annoying.

2010 Elantra has 37,000 miles. I've had three episodes (one with my 16 year old granddaughter driving) where the power steering goes out while driving at slow speed on city street. No prior incident known to create the condition. Thus far, only way to fix problem is to turn car off and restart. Not very safe. Last time this happened I had struggle to drive the car into a nearby parking lot to safely turn it off and restart.

In 2016 I took my car in for "sticky" steering, in which the dealer replaced bushings in the steering column. On 5/19/2018, while driving forward at approximately 45 mph, my power steering went out and my eps light came on. I pulled over, turned the car off and back on but it didn't solve the problem. After having a mechanic look at it, was informed they couldn't diagnose it because Hyundai has proprietary codes on their eps and ABS systems that doesn't allow them to diagnose the problem, forcing me to have to take it to the dealership. Not having the funds to have the car towed 20 miles to the nearest dealer, I drove my car with no power steering to the dealer. They informed me that my entire steering column needs to be replaced. My car has 84,000 miles and never been in an accident. Has been well maintained. They can not tell me the reason the entire steering column has to be replaced but that it does at my cost of $2,500! I found the recall of the eps but that is only repaired with a part, not the entire steering column. I have found online hundreds of other people with low mileage elentras having to have their entire steering columns replaced at their cost. Hyundai is aware of the issue but doing nothing about it putting their customers in danger.

Electronic power steering gets disabled while driving and steering becomes very hard when it happens. It happened three times recently and concerned with the safely of driving this vehicle. This seems to be associated with the recall NHTSA campaign number: 15V100000... but my VIN number is not listed as the affected vehicle. It is highly likely that the issue is also related to the recall. Need your help to resolve the same.

A thud is being made that starts when steering and continues through the drive. It started before 100K and Hyundai dealership didn't know cause. Now, Hyundai admits that there is an issue with the distengrating steering coupling rubber and have campaign txx7 yet because my car is now over 100K (my car is currently 118K and less than 8 years old (I'm only owner) and I discovered it before 100K), they won't stand by their product. I need help please why Hyundai fixes my issue.

20 January 2018- today the eps warning light came on in my car while driving. Steering is okay for now, but has been clunking off and on for some time. I was told this is a coupler wearing but not a safety issue. My car manufacture date is May 07 2010. May 04 2015 I had 60000 service done. Campaign931 was performed as eps S/w check and ECU upgrade only. My manufacture date is one week older than the last manufacture date on the recall. Did the date range expand" is my vehicle included in a larger count? am I eligible for a replacement"

The car creaks when you go at a slow speed or over a hump. The steering wheel also makes a clicking or knocking sound when steering it and when you turn the car to the left or right it makes a creaking noise. When you get out of the car, it seems that it creaks once the weight is lifted. The creaking is either when stationary or when going at a low speed over humps and when turning the wheel. When driving at normal speed or doing the speed limit, you don't hear the creaking, but the steering wheel still knocks. And when putting on brakes after normal speed, the steering wheel knocks badly.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. While operating the vehicle, the electronic power steering (eps) sensor illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Also, the brake lights erroneously illuminated without depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to sport durst Hyundai in durham, nc where it was diagnosed that the eps was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V10000 (steering), although the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 96,000.

Apparently, there was a recall on Hyundai cars and I was never notified. I bought my Hyundai Elantra 2010 in December 2014. The recall was put out in Feb 2015. I was never notified by the dealership or anyone for that matter. I have taken my car to the dealership, multiple times for servicing and no one has ever told me that there was ever a recall on Hyundai models. I bought the car from fayetteville nc when I was stationed at fort bragg. I am now in germany. The eps light came on and the steering wheel started getting all wobbly. I took it to 2 german shops and I was told to take it to the Hyundai dealership. So I took it in. They told me that there was a recall on Hyundai but I miss the deadline and now I have to pay around 4000 euros to get it fixed. So is there a way around this situation" I wasn't notified. Nobody notified me. Is there a way to get around this or get my money back". the car is currently at the Hyundai dealership here in kaiserslautern germany. The shop ordered the parts and waiting for it to arrive so they can start working on the car.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15V100000 (steering), but the remedy was insufficient. The dealer (fairfax Hyundai, 10925 fairfax blvd, fairfax, va 22030, (703) 352-0444) updated the software and stated that the eps control unit did not need to be replaced. Shortly after the dealer's repair, the eps randomly failed and made it extremely difficult to steer the wheel left and right intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure numerous times and refused to provide a solution. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 14.

From parked position, I turned the car on but the steering wheel would not move. The eps light was on. The steering would not work in manual mode either, it was completely locked. Vehicle was towed to Hyundai service where they diagnosed need for new steering column. (cost $2400!) the car had only about 83,000 miles. The previous steering recall work had been done in 2015 (software problem?) luckily I was not driving at the time this happened. Online I see other drivers who had this problem and it caused a crash.
