The Forward Collision System on this vehicle can be turned off using a button right below the navigation system. Once turned off, it STAYS turned off even if the car is restarted. Worse, the light on the button turns ON when the system is turned OFF. Some of the adjacent buttons behave differently, i.e. the light indicates the system is ON.
As a result, a new driver unfamiliar with the vehicle got into a collision that the system should have avoided.
A safety system should always be enabled after the car is restarted. Traction control and other safety systems that can be disabled always turn back on automatically.
