CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. On several occasions, while driving, the vehicle stalled and lost power. The service transmission, traction control, and electronic stability control indicators illuminated. I bought my car in March 2014, since that time my vehicle has been in the shop 7 times for the same thing. I have been to 3 different dealerships since my car is still under warranty and continue to have the same problem. Yesterday on my way home on a major freeway my car put it self in park and shut off this happened several more times until I pulled over somewhere safe to get it towed. I have 2 small children and feel the vehicle is very unsafe to drive I have contacted Chrysler as well regarding this matter. I would like to know when it becomes a concern for people and there families for someone to take action. The dealer ship refused to work with me and put me in a safer vehicle because I am now upside done on this vehicle. So they wanted me to make a $900 dollar payment. This to me seems that the dealership and Chrysler are more concerned with making profit and sales then they are keeping their customs safe. I hope someone opens their eyes to these types of situations. I called the national highway traffic and safety to report this and the lady on the other end of the line had no concern with dealing with it I asked to speak to a manager and was sent to a voice mail. Good to know that we have these guys watching on backs when it comes to the safety of families.

While driving about 60 mph the car lost all acceleration and slowed very quickly, the engine light came on and the assist emergency brake light came on ( I think that was what it said. As I pulled to the road side there was little no rpms. I shut the car off and waited, restarted and still no rpms. I disconnected the battery after googling the problem and restarted and lights where all gone. This was great for about 4 days and maybe 300 miles and again it happened. This time I had my cade reader and received a P1dcd code, I did not clear code but shut engine down and restarted. The car ran with rpms ok but was a bit sluggish. I called dealer when I got home and they said I would have to pay for them to do a diognostic test to figure what the problem is. I drive my kids in the mornings and feel this could lead to a serious accident. I dont feel safe driving it myself let alone my children with me.

Shifting is jerky and or delayed in first 3 gears mostly. Appears to be random. It might delay while shifting for a second and then engage with so much force that it [xxx] near gives you whiplash........seams unsafe and even my 1962 rambler shifts smoother. There is no way this is (normal) as the manufacturer states. Purchased 3/20/14 transmission issues started at approx. 5200mi delayed shift, sharp hard shift at low speeds, ie. Under 25mph, intermittent, non-predictive occcurence every couple of weeks, then began to increase frequency, problem persisted even after software upgrades and got worse after most recent software upgrade, transmission shifting was all over the board in delayed, short and rough shift along with lurching forward on occasion dealer has not been effective or pro-active in dealing with this issue, transmission is not performing as designed is mal-functioning almost on a daily basis, the lurching, lunging forward is a definite safety hazard, once it almost lurched into the car ahead of me service invoices are available

While driving down the highway the vehicle lost power, the messages "service parking break" and "service transmission" appeared in the dash, the check engine light came on, and the emergency break light blinked on and then off. The car did not respond to pressing on the gas pedal, fortunately I was able glide off the highway and into a parking lot. I turned off the car, when I restarted it the message "service transmission" appeared along with the check engine light. I was able to put the car into gear and drive but the power was greatly reduced and it stayed in a lower gear.

While trying to start the Jeep I placed my foot on the brakes and pressed the start/stop button the vehicle jerked then made a loud noise followed by what felt like something dropped out from underneath. It then died and the symbol of fault popped up on the screed. It stated that there was wrong with the transmission. Now the vehicle will not start. Vehicle will often surge when I'm trying to stop. I look for it now but it can still catch me off guard and it is difficult to stop sometimes. Feels like I won't be able to stop in time. Jeep also shifts real hard sometimes, causing vehicle to jerk hard. Strange revving noises when accelerating. I took vehicle to dealer that I bought it from, they charged me for recall and said they did the work. It has been a year and Chrysler is showing that the recall work has not been done. Case #32715454 but no refund and it seems that they have done nothing about the dealer. Fca customer assistance center

"servicetransmission" messaging problems. Jeep shook and shuts off while I was on the highway moving. At 65mph. I steered it to the shoulder of the road. Restated the Jeep and followed the messages instructions on my navigation screen. Upon putting it on "D" and giving the gas the Jeep lunged forward and it felt like someone had hit me from the rear. Once moving the Jeep stayed in low gears. I exited the highway and using the service road drove it to the dealership. They performed a mandated recall software upgrade which seemed to work. 8 days latter my Jeep is back in at the dealership with the same problems.
