Cherokee Latitute, North Edition 3.2L V6

Our 2014 Jeep Cherokee stopped completely while driving, with "service transmission" warning. Was towed to our used car dealer. Then after restarting it, it was functional again. The same problem just arrived 2 months after. Car is now being checked at a dealer.

Update from Aug 25, 2016: The Chrysler/Jeep dealer said they repaired it today under warranty (no cost) by replacing the "body valve" unit, which is some type of transmission control system. Let's see how it goes now.

Cherokee Trail Hawk 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,323 miles

I bought the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk on Friday 8/5/2016, it is now Monday 8/8/2016 and its in the shop. The transmission service warning came on and the motor was really struggling to move the jeep along. Now I live on a steep hill and I thought the jeep was going to roll away backwards down the hill because the transmission was not pushing the vehicle forward. So I had to roll backwards down the hill in neutral in order to look at it on level ground.

I should have done more research because now I'm finding out that the 9 spd transmission is having worlds of problems. I love Chrysler and I love this Jeep "for the three days I've owned it". Chrysler please do something I've been a Chrysler man most of my life. I have a 2014 charger R/T. Sitting next to the Jeep. Don't let me down don't make me lose faith in a brand that I've owned for so long.

06/05/16 I was stopped at a light and when it turned green I began to go on the ramp for the highway and suddenly It wouldn't go and shut down and said "Service Transmission" "Service Park Brake" "Pull car over and put in P then desired gear." The check engine light and traction control light also came on and would not go away. I was almost rear ended because of this issue and was in the middle of the ramp not able to move my vehicle. I restarted the car multiple times and was finally able to get it moved off the road. The steering was difficult and when I put the vehicle in Drive it made a loud noise and would't move. I put the car in Park again and restarted until I was able to get it off the road. The messages about the parking brake and transmission had went away but check engine and traction control would not go off. It was a late Sunday afternoon and the dealership was closed so I had to wait until the next day to bring it in to the dealership. I took it first thing Monday morning (06/06/16) and sat there waiting for 4 hours until the service advisor came and told me my Jeep needed some updates and the lever on the transmission was loose and they had to tighten it was fixed and everything was good to go. Drove the vehicle straight home no issues and my husband drove it to work the following day with no issues reported. Day 2 after repairs the same issues came back.

MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE STOPS WHENEVER IT WANTS AND TELLS ME TO PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE (SERVICE TRANSMISSION). WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU NEED TO STOP THE VEHICLE FOR 5MINS AND RESTART BEFORE IT RESPONSES. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER FOR A WEEK NOW AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX IT. I'M REALLY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED. HOPE CHYSLER GROUP FIX THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE URGENTLY.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,037 miles

Along with many other owners, I have experienced the lunging and unresponsiveness of the Jeep Cherokee transmission. Two days ago, the check engine light illuminated. I called Dick Hannah Jeep Service center (where I leased the vehicle from less than two years ago) to bring the car in only to be told that they had no appointments available until next week. This morning while driving to work the Service Transmission warning appears and the car becomes unresponsive and will not accelerate no matter how much the gas pedal is depressed - it was stuck at 1000 RPM and about 25 mph. I was lucky that I was not on a highway and did not get hit when this happened.

After I managed to get the car to my office (one mile away), I call the service center at Dick Hannah Jeep and am given a number for their customer loyalty program so that they can tow the car to the dealership 31 miles away. I am told to be at the dealership before 5pm so that I can pick up a loaner. One would assume everything would be ready after having to spend $117 to Uber to the dealership. Nope, i have to wait for 45 minutes because of the sheer incompetence of the service adviser not communication to the service manager that I was even there. Then I get to spend another 10 minutes searching for the car (which they couldn't locate on the lot) before they realized they were running diagnostics on it.

In all the vehicles I have owned, I have never had such terrible issues not only with the dealership service center, but with the transmission. The Cherokee v6 drives worse than an old 4 cylinder! To top it all off, apparently these issues with the transmission are known. If this is not an isolated issue and Jeep Chrysler knows they have several LEMONS on the road, one would think that they would see this as a safety concern and promptly address it (and yes, I did go in previously for the "software update" that did nothing for the transmission jerking and being unresponsive.

Update from Jun 10, 2016: So after escalating, the service director took my case. The original service manager diagnosed as only engine issues but after looking at the actual diagnostics and having a mechanic drive it, the service director found that the vehicle needed a new transmission. After one month at the dealership and 300 miles put on it to test it, I am still getting random jerking and jumping when coasting and starting out at stop signs. Time to file another complaint.

I have never purchased a Jeep before and have never purchased a new car. This is my first new car and my first Jeep. At this point I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER JEEP EVER!!!! I have had nothing but trouble with my transmission since I bought the vehicle. I have taken it to the dealership a number of times and was told that they could not get the transmission to slip or act up. I took it back after I was almost hit when the vehicle would not shift without the rpms being way up. I was told they adjusted the transmission and tightened stuff down. A week ago I got in my Jeep to go to work It started fine but when i shifted my vehicle into reverse the dash chimed and the service transmission light came on. At that point the dash flashed shift to park numerous times until i shifted to park. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it the dash chimed again to service transmission I shifted to reverse a Big Clunk was heard. I shifted it to park and had it towed to the dealership. After waiting all day I called for information and was told that i needed a new transmission. Transmission was replaced under warranty.

Purchased 2002 Jeep Liberty, perfect until 2013. Husband took over since I had a good run with it decided to purchase a new 2014 in June. Not a problem. Four months later is when all the problems started.Thank God I was at home when it first happened on a Saturday morning ready to put the car in reverse all the lights came on the dashboard and wouldn't reverse and engine shut off. Waited approximately five minutes hit restart again. Got on the main road the speed went from 35 to 20 to almost 5 miles. Finally made it to a dealership and was charged for rental. Upon pick up stated there were a recall they fixed and I wasn't getting all nine gears and that's one reason of many is when the nightmare began and haven't stopped yet.

Cherokee Trailhawk V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Service Transmission message displayed with constant chimes every 10 seconds when attempting to back vehicle out of driveway. Flashing gear selector lights and engine just revs in neutral when attempting to move in Reverse or Drive. Console telling me to "Shift to Park, then to selected Gear" even though I'm in park. This transmission has exhibited annoying characteristics since the day I bought it-- sometimes after a stop it revs in neutral and then downshifts causing me to squeak the tires. Cruise control is almost useless in a headwind or rolling terrain due to constant shifting up then down every few seconds.

Update from Sep 26, 2016: The dealer originally reflashed the transmission to fix this and said if it happened again they'd replace the transmission. Then it happened again (at 40,000 miles). Instead of replacing transmission, dealer reflashed the tranmission again. I'm skeptical Jeep knows how to fix this.

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

This is the third time that I've had my Cherokee to the dealership for the same problem. While making a left turn at an intersection, suddenly my warning lights came on, the "service transmission" screen appeared and the vehicle went into neutral. The "D" drive light began flashing and I lost all power, causing me to barely miss being hit by oncoming traffic. After turning the car off and back on, I was able to nurse it in what felt like 3rd gear into a parking lot. After shutting the engine off for approximately 20 minutes, I was able to drive it again, although the orange "check engine" light was still on. Had it towed to the dealership to be repaired again. This happened almost 2 months ago to the date while vacationing in the Sierras. Had to be towed 170 miles to a dealership. Their solution was to reflash the computer; however, shifting is still rough, I have a wobble upon acceleration and the same problem reoccurred.

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission

Driving on highway at 50 MPH, suddenly, light came on dash to service transmission and a bunch of other lights (anti skid, something about start/stop process?). I lost drive and managed to coast over the next lane and pull off the road. While parked, I tried to move car from D to P with a lot of massive clunking. I shut off the engine with an aim to get vehicle towed. I thought i would re start the engine to see if things would reset, and for some reason, I was able to select D with the transmission lights still on. I drove to dealer where I was advised that to expect them to have my car for approx. 2 weeks, even though there was no diagnosis, which tells me that they are aware of the problem. It was confirmed to me that this was definitely NOT a software issue after I mentioned that I expected to come in, reset the software and be on my way.
