Vehicle will stall out without warning while moving at any speed. Pulling over and restarting the car fixes the issue temporarily. This has been a problem for several years. No error codes are being generated. Replaced O2 sensors and this remains an issue. Looking online, many people have had this same issue.

I received a recall regarding the tow hitch to protect the gas tank in rear end collisions. I took the vehicle to hertrich of pocomoke, my closest Jeep/Dodge/Ford dealer and they supposedly performed the recall and everything checked out ok with the factory hitch. I took the vehicle home, and several months later was under the Jeep performing some maintenance. When I looked up, I noticed that the tow hitch was severly rusted in some spots, and there were chunks of rust inside the hollow tow hitch. I have been unable to get them to do anything about it, contacting them, and the manufacturer several times.

Monroe Dodge Chrysler monroe Michigan refused to perform related recall repair on my vehicle last year, said it was too rusty and would do nothing. I called same dealer last week and spoke with female service mananger 9(gloria?) at 734 242 6370 who advised she is unaware of any consent agreement. My info indicates on 7/26/2015 enforcement action document requires the vehicle be actually rated as to the amount of rust, and in most situations the hitch can be installed after proper welding, rust removal, etc. Is done. Please contaact me, preferably by phone and in writing, about what can be done. The dealer will not acknowledge any further actions they will take, nor acknowledges the 7/26/2015 enforcement action.

On a trip from northern Virginia I was South bound on hwy 15 when I began to smell smoke and applied my brakes. The pedal went to the floor as smoke rolled out from under the car. I tried to down shift into low as my car was in flames and smoke engulfed the hood. I entered the on ramp for hwy 460 bypass East bound when my transmission caught a lower gear, my car was still moving when I shifted into neutral and jammed the car into park and exited my Jeep. After I ran (approx. 50 yards) I looked back ans noticed there were droplets of flames coming from underneath the rear and the car blew up sending flames up 25 to 30 feet up into the air. The 911 dispatcher advised me to get away as the fire and safety people arrived on the scene. Earlier that day when filling up my car I noticed a strong smell of gasoline but since I was in a sheetz station I shrugged it off. I had my trailer hitch on the car and removed it at the salvage yard. I contacted service at the local Jeep dealer but they said they had not heard of any recalls. Today I received the NHTSA recall notice stating the obvious. Although quick thinking and some devine intervention spared me......... some lady with her kids in passenger seats might not be as fortunate. Finally, I appreciate your effort I called the number you provided and [xxx] assisted me in providing me with 800 853-1403. I called 5 times with nothing but a recording after waiting 45 minutes. Please tell Chrysler I want another Jeep 98 with a good hitch or I will be meeting them in court. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I've got a 98 Jeep Cherokee, I received a letter in the mail approximately a few months after purchasing my vehicle saying that I was eligible for a hitch to be installed for free. The hitch was supposed to be installed to prevent a rear collision that could cause a fuel leak during an accident. In the letter it said that they had no available replacement hitches at the current time and just to wait for further notification from my local Jeep dealership. That was over a year ago. I only know that it has been over a year because I've received the exact same letter again recently. With life and work and school getting in the way, I've finally found the time to write a formal complaint about this unacceptable situation. It should not take close to two years to replace this hazardous situation.
