Jeep was left running in park. After approximately 2 minutes vehicle shifted from park to reverse and proceed at a relatively fast speed in a circular direction for about 100 yards until it struck a parked 5th wheel trailer. It caused severe damage to both vehicles. It narrowly missed several people in the area. When I contacted Jeep they stated that there could not possibly be a problem.

My vehicle, shortly after purchase, had jumped out of park and into reverse. This incidence was overlooked as a possible error on my part. In April of this year, while pulling out of my garage, I put my car into park while it was running, to move a toy behind my vehicle. I exited the vehicle and proceeded to go to remove the toy when I realized the vehicle was now moving. I made one attempt to get back in, nearly slipping under it and made a second attempt this time succeeding but not before the door had caught onto the corner of my husbands compressor causeing $2700 worth of damage. I notified the dealer, they checked for a cause, found nothing. Shortly after, all the reports of this problem surfaced in the media. I contacted Chrysler and they claim that only the years from 1995 to 1999 are affected. Has the cause of the problem been rectified in the 2001's or do we need more deaths for them to acknowledge the problem. I have suffered a $500 loss and a three year surcharge on my insurance, loss of merit rating and still have a fear of possible injury with this vehicle. Please send me any info as to whether mine is the first case know with this year Jeep. Vehicle was pulled into garage and was shifted into park. Owner's husband stepped out of the vehicle at which time it shifted into reverse on it's own slamming the open drivers side door into the garage wall. This slowed the vehicle long enough for him to jump in and put on the brake. Significant damage was done to drivers side door requiring body work. No response from manufacturer to date.

The engine was idling and the vehicle was in park in the owners garage. The driver exited the car leaving the car door open. The vehicle jumped from park to reverse and rolled backwards out of the garage. The open car door first hit the driver knocking the driver to the floor, the the door hit the front edge of the garage bending the car door backward and pushing the door into the vehicles' left front quarter panel.

Was towing a boat trailer. Stopped the vehicle and put in park. Exited Jeep and it jumped from park to reverse. Vehicle backed down street with boat attached. I chased and tried to jump in, fell, scraping knee. Fortunately the trailer jacknifed at that time just before the car would have run over me. My belief is that the flexible plastic cover over the button ont he shift lever became wedged in the button preventing the button from releasing and enabling the lever to jump from park to reverse.

Transmission problem/ the transmission bangs, and I do mean bangs into gear. Chrysler said this is normal for an electronic transmission. This does not happen all the time, but it does occur at any speed and in any gear except 1st. Chrysler district rep said this is the electronic transmission searching for the next gear, he called it a burp. I have felt what he is talking about, I have driven many other vehicles with electronic transmissions, but what I am saying is this SUV actually bangs or klunks into gear sometimes, especially when I first drive it for the day, it will slam, not burp, into second gear. Also it seems to occur more often when going into 4th gear, when my speed is in the 45 to 50 miles per hour range. This SUV has slammed into gear while up shifting and down shifting. There is no way this slamming / banging / klunking into gear can be considered normal. A/C problem - the vehicle has a miss in it when A/C is on. Most noticable when on the highway, occurs about every 10 seconds. It feels like the vehicle has just gone over a bump in the road. I was told this is also normal. This is the A/C system cycling. I have driven well over a hundred vehicles or more, all of them automatics, all of them had A/C, no other car, truck or SUV I have ever driven has had a miss or lurch every 10 seconds when the A/C is on or slams into gear. Chrysler says this is completely normal, I have gone and test driven 3 other Grand Cherokee limiteds, I did not notice these problems with those vehicles.
