While parallel parking, with my right foot on the brake pedal, I shifted the automatic transmission out of reverse. Immediately the engine rapidly revved up and lurched forward. I pressed more firmly on the brake, causing the car (a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee) and motor to pause, then the motor rapidly revved up again, overcoming braking. Horrified, and unable to stop the car, I watched as the car raced into the vehicle ahead of me. Immediately after the impact, the engine returned to normal idle. I then checked the car: Cruise control was off, my hands were still gripping the steering wheel in order to provide additional leverage for my foot on the brake pedal, my right foot was still firmly in the middle of the brake pedal and not near the accelerator pedal, and the gear shift lever was in neutral. The vehicle ahead of me sustained damage to its bumper and tailgate. This is the 4th time this has happened with this vehicle, the first two of which were reported to you earlier. In all three earlier cases, I was able to barely avoid an accident, but not this time. As noted earlier, the Jeep mechanic was not able to find any causative problem.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6cyl....check engine light came on, brought to dealer service station. They indicated it was a sensor which they replaced. Two days later light is back on, returned back to station this time it was the computer. Computer was replaced one week later engine light back on. This time the problem is the engine compartment harness which melted together. Called Chrysler they refuse to assist me with this problem, this type of repair is estimated at over $2,000.

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While making a left turn at 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle would not stop when the brakes were depressed. The contact was finally able to decelerate and turned the vehicle off. The failure was due to the throttle cable becoming stuck. The vehicle operated normally once the throttle cable was released. The vehicle was driven to a repair shop where it is currently being diagnosed. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 33,010.

Since purchased in 3/06, 2004 gc V8 while idling, repeatedly dies, or nearly dies but recovers only to cause a lurching forward if in gear. Will die in gear or in park and I am able to start it again right away. Dealer, after three tries cannot find anything wrong. May go two weeks without happening, may happen twice in one day.

I purchased a used 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in January of 06. I have had it 3 1/2 months now and about a week and a half ago the vehicle started to idle rough when I'd come to a red light. Then the next day I my wife used the Jeep and stated that the engine light was on and it felt like it wanted to stall. I brought it to the dealer and they said that I blew an injector and the other injectors had carbon build up in them. My Jeep only has 27,00 miles on it. They changed the injector and then cleaned the others. It was still under warranty. I was suppose to leave Sunday May 14th to drive to NY from fla. On Friday May 13th the Jeep started acting up again. It ran worse than the previous time. I brought it back and stated that it is worse and I need the problem corrected asap because I am traveling to NY on Sunday,2 days later. They hooked it up to the computer and came back and stated that they would have to replace the PCM in the vehicle. They said that the control board was bad. Now I am paying for a lease car, I am without my Jeep, and was suppose to have left for NY on Sunday. It is now Monday. I believe that when you purchase a vehicle that said vehicle should be reliable. My Jeep only has 27,000 miles on it, it shouldn't have a computer problem yet. The dealer is supposedly fixing the situation. But from what I have been reading here, I may have a ongoing situation. What recourse do I have. Do I have a case for the lemon law?

1 month after buying my Jeep it died out at a stoplight.dealer could not find anything wrong with car. A month after getting it back, it died 2 more times at stoplights.I took it back to the dealer who said the computer needs to be replaced. Now waiting for the new computer which will take a week to get here. Hopefully this will correct the problem, but I've seen many of the same complaints from other people on this site.

The consumer is experiencing a problem with stalling. The consumer would be driving and suddenly the vehicle loses power and stalls. This problem happens intermittently, the consumer has taken the vehicle back to the dealer, however, they were unable to duplicate the problem. The battery was replaced on the third repair attempt.

Car/engine idles rough and shakes heavily at times at lights - this is a problem that Chrysler doesn?T seem to care about. Gas mpg has also been poor. I see that I am the fifth complaint in the database that I could find...the engine stalls after coming from highway speeds. Idle goes from 600 RPM and then suddenly drops below 400-300 RPM and then stalls completely. Must be put in park - and then restarted, regardless of where it occurs - this is a serious safety issue that has been overlooked too many times. Once they said they fixed it, by cleaning the throttle body - the next time they gave me the "can't duplicate concern" - the last time they told me they reprogrammed the computer. It has nothing to do with the A/C, radio, electrical (lighting), and defrost since it has happened many times when all of these are off. The dealers keep playing games and will not rectify this issue.

Purchased 3/04, in for service 5/04 X2 at 1st dealership for rough idle in park and in gear at stop. Diagnostics indicate no problem, rec calling Chrysler cust service, referred to 2nd dealership, same complaint, diagnostics indicate no problem. Was told "that is how that engine runs" engine feels as if it will stall out at stop or park. Chrysler offering no help at this time other than referral to district manager which will not be in until end of month.(June) appears that there have been many complaints logged about this, yet Chrysler/Jeep unwilling to fix problem. Vehicle also pulls to right, was told "that's how it is", also less than ave gas milage.

Engine would stop running at idle. The dealer placed a co-Pilot on the computer, however it shorted out, consequently the dealer had no idea as how to fix the problem. The gas mileage on the vehicle was poor.
