CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.

All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

Cluster light came on prior to having the recall for NHTSA campaign number: 13V282000 completed. I took in the Jeep to have the recall completed, but it did not solve the issue. I was informed that the occupant restraint module was defective, and not covered on the 2012 Jeep Liberty recall, only the 2011. The estimated price to replace the module is $580. I have seen multiple other reports from 2012 Jeep Liberty owners who are experiencing the same issue. I believe the recall should be expanded to include the 2012 model for module replacement, and not just reflash.

Starting two years ago, after a rain, when parked, upon locking my car either manually or with the key fob, the alarm goes off, interior lights illuminate and the dash states the gate is ajar. Repeatedly open and close the gate with no remedy. Have to leave car unlocked and usually the interior lights go off after a few hours. Related is the gate occasionally fails to unlock as well as unable to open the rear gate window. And the rear wiper continues to stay on after being turned off. All appear to be related to moisture somehow affecting the lift gate electrical system. Have taken to dealership three times, first two under warranty and dealer advised unable to find problem. Third time after warranty expired, advised they would need to replace seal at cost of $600. Declined repair.

Took it to the dealer they informed me it is the tipm which will cost $1200 in doing more research there is a class action lawsuit for my vehicle on this part and Chrysler has not recalled it. It is very hazardous to drive with no windshield washer especially after it has snowed out

I locked my vehicle and the alarm started going off. Went out to see what the problem was and it shows gate on the dashboard. I checked the gate lift and it was secure. I locked it again. A few hours later the alarm went off again. I couldn't lock it anymore without the alarm going off. While driving I cannot have the dash lit up because all of the inside lights will be on as well. After reading another complaint I assume that it is probably the same issue he had and it is the latch. I just purchased this vehicle the 17th of September and my 90 day warrenty has expired as of 1 week ago so I am going to have to pay to have this repaired.

I bought this car in October 2015, with only 27,680 miles on it and I'm already experiencing issues with it. Last week the airbag light came on out of no where. When I took the car yesterday to get the recall fixed, the tech. Told me that the light stayed on and that it had nothing to do with a recall so it would not be covered. He also said that this was a module (not sure what that is) but if I wanted to fix it I would have to pay a deductible because it is not covered under warranty. My second issue is the driver's side window control buttons do not work properly, I literally have to pull really hard to get the window up. Now I know that from reading other complaints, this is a common issue in this car, I just don't want to experience a fire in the panel or any other malfunction. Is there something that can be done, I feel that I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for manufacture issue that are not wear and tear.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Liberty. While driving at various speeds, the windshield wipers operated independently. The contact stated that the failure recurred daily. The contact also stated that the anti-theft system would alarm independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the anti-theft system was disabled, but the technician could not diagnose what was causing the electrical failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

The "gate" light in my Jeep Liberty came on while driving and would not go off, even though everything was securely shut. As a result, I was unable to lock my vehicle because the alarm would sound. The interior lights also stayed on during this time, which was a hazard when driving at night as it directly affected my ability to see outside my car. I have done some research on this issue and do see that it appears to be a common problem which may be caused by faulty rubber trim around the rear hatch window. The rubber allows water to get in to the latch and eventually ruins it. I recently had the gate latch assembly replaced, which did resolve the issue, .

At around 40K miles the airbag light in the dash came on and would not turn off. When we took the car to get it inspected it failed inspection due to the airbag light and the mechanic told us we would have to take the car to the Jeep dealer to have them diagnose and fix the issue. We took the car to the dealer and they said the issue was the orc module and it would have to be replaced and it would cost $650. This part was recalled on the 2011 Jeep Liberty and I have read a lot of complaints online about this part on the 2012 Liberty. We have no choice in replacing this part or our car will not pass inspection and our only option is to take it to a Jeep dealer to replace.

My air bag light has come on, and remains on, for no reason. No accidents, which could possibly cause any possible electrical malfunction. The air bag has not deployed. It appears to be an electrical malfunction. Also, the clock seems to run two minutes slow every month.

On June 17, 2014 I went to fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge in sanford fl. Due to starting issues with my 2012 Jeep Liberty which I purchased on December 2012 upon arrival I entered the service lane and was greeted by a company employee. He said "someone will be with you shortly" not long after another employee said basically the same thing. I waited a while longer then another person who did not introduce himself (whom now I know as [xxx]). how can I help you" I state to him that my Jeep is having starting issues and without letting me finish he said you got no warranty it's a 2012 Jeep. I stated, ?sir this Jeep was purchased on 12/2012 and it doesn't matter the warranty goes from the manufactured date.? I continue to explain that the warranty says 12 month with an 18 month replacement then it's prorated. Then [xxx] looked into the truck and said you have too many miles in a rude and non-professional manner. I said can we look at the battery and look at the warranty. I released the latch and he opened the hood. [xxx] was standing in front of the Jeep and I was by the driver side I began to read the printed warranty on the battery. I began to notice liquid coming from under one of the caps. I said look at that not good. At that time [xxx] said let me handle this issue. I touched it and the top blew off exploding and spraying me in the eyes and in the face. I was rushed to another area of the shop where they began to flush my eyes. The first person that greeted me upon arrival he said I"M the person who first greeted you the medic cane and continued first aid while transporting me to the hospital in sanford then the emergency room operators took over. I received 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my face. My eyes are severely damaged my vision has been greatly decreased with dry eyes cloudy and vision which is hindering my night time driving.
