2009 Nissan Murano, the brakes goes soft and all the way to the floor but does not stop at all! we had multiple close calls. The brake pads were replaced twice, bled few times; got the master cylinder checked; multiple times by different mechanics. The dealership said that there was nothing wrong first time. Last time they did a brake fluid flush and bled. That didn't fix the problem. My old mechanic pointed me to online multiple complaints regarding the same exact issue. Contacted Nissan today and they denied knowing anything about this issue. There will be major fatality that will happen soon with over 120K of these 2009 models being actively driven in the us.

Brake pedal would, without warning, loose pressure and go all the way to the floor. Coming to a normal stop or first engaging drive, pedal would go right to the floor and no ability to stop. This was intermittent and inconsistent. Very dangerous with no brakes. Dealer replaced the ABS actuator. Defective actuator seems common and a real safety issue.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. As a result, the contact collided with another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (larry miller Nissan, 2400 West 104th ave, denver, co 80234) where it was diagnosed that a new brake reservoir cap and a different type of brake fluid were needed. The vehicle was at the dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was notified and stated that it was a safety issue that would be sent to a third party. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Brakes travel to far making braking questionable. Several times wrecks have almost occurred. Vehicle is significantly harder to brake safely when trying to stop from higher rates of speed. Brake pedal travels literally to the floor board.

While driving the brake pedal will randomly lose pressure and go all the way down to the firewall when trying to slow down or stop which results in the vehicle failing to stop. It appears to only be happening at speeds of 45 mph or less. This has been happening for about 30-45 days now are is becoming more frequent now occurring at least once every 3-4 days. When this 1st started I was advised that it may be due to low brake pads and under spec rotors so we replaced the rotors and pads on all 4 wheels and bleed the brakes to ensure there was no air trapped in the lines however this did not fix the issue. There is no loss of brake fluid and all of the brake lines are in great shape. We are the 2nd owners of the vehicle and purchased it with about 30K miles on it in 2012 and it now has 70K miles on it. This is my wife's car and drives my 2 young children around in it and we no longer feel safe using it as yesterday she could not stop the car trying to turn into the ymca parking lot and she couldn't stop! luckily there was no-one in front of her as she would have slammed into them. I don't feel comfortable selling or trading the car since this is apparently an issue that multiple other people are having issues with that dealers can't figure out and I don't feel comfortable passing this dangerous situation on to someone else.

The issue is when the anti-lock brakes are engaged. After they are engaged the break pressure immediately goes soft and the brake pedal goes to the floor with no breaks. I have reported this for the past 2 years and the Nissan dealership tells me that they cannot reproduce the effect and that they are fine. It only seems to happen in the winter months when its cold. I have to pull to the side of the road and shut the car down and restart again. It seems to reset the anti-lock brake system. Ive noticed there is an investigation going on and wanted to report what I have found as well. The latest happened when I was slowing down at a stop sign and hit an icy patch which then the antilock brake rumbled engaging it. After I finally stopped half way into the intersection the brake pedal went to the floor with no brake pressure what so ever....I guided the car to the side and sat for about 15 minutes and shut down and restarted the car before brakes came back.

While driving my car this morning my brakes went almost to the floor before I could stop the car in the middle of an intersection. (soft brake pedal). I was lucky I was not hit by a car. This has happened before. I recently found out that there are more than 110,000 people complaining about this issue and having to pay a lot of money to try and find the problem to no avail. Nissan has to know about it but will not address this issue. Does it take people seriously getting hurt or dying to get the attention of this issue" this issue is considered a matter of life and death. Who do we go to" dealers say they don't know what to do to fix it and Nissan denies this is happening.

Brake pedal needs to go down to the floor in order to stop. I was driving on a neighborhood street applied brakes ahead of a stop sign before entering a 2 lane georgetown rd. Highway. Zip 28469 to make a right turn. When approaching next light 1 mile away I was afraid the brakes would fail.. brakes went back to normal now. Still do not trust car. Yesterday, April 16, 2018as checked by car repair business and said the ABS computer activator was not working. Nisssan would not let him access ABS computer T0O reset numbers. This is very expensive to repair and should not be a problem. I am scared to drive this car. Read this has been investigated since May 2017. Is there a recall on 2009 Nissan Murano yet? please contact us about your investigation results.

I lose ABS breaking when I run over a pothole or slide on ice/snow. It occurred twice this week. Once I was driving and I went through a stop sign B/C I couldn't come to a stop with the brakes pressed to the floor. A second occurrence took place for my wife when she hit a pothole and it took a significant stopping distance to come to a complete stop. Only by shutting off the engine and restarting the engine does the ABS system and therefore the breaks work again. This has occurred over the past 12 months and we have had a full inspection on my brake lining, ABS system, fluid pressure, etc and everything passes. What should be done to correct this issue?

Fuel gauge says empty when 100 miles are on the gas tank. My local Nissan dealer, elhart, told me they would have to charge me 5 hours of labor to remove the gas tank to "diagnose" the problem, even though the fuel guage sensors are accessible under the rear seat for replacement. Also, this is a very common problem with all Nissan - quests do have a recall on it, but no other Nissan, even though they all use the same faulty gas guage. It causes panic to the driver to see the "empty" light on, & they call for help, swerve off the road, when they are really not empty at all. All Nissan should have a recall on these faulty gas gauges so that Nissan discontinues using them.

On 02/07/2018 I was driving and hit a bump in the road as approaching a stop sign. Brakes were immediately malfunctioning & petal went to floor. I pumped brakes several times to stop. Drove vehicle home and parked. 03/16/2018 drove to local sears (about 1 1/2 miles). Had vehicle serviced and master cylinder replaced in addition to bleeding brakes several times, but problem with brakes was not resolved. Was advised to take to dealer because ABS wasn't working properly. Very dangerous!!! it appears many has had similar problems & NHTSA is currently investigating. It also appears to be a pretty costly repair.

While driving downtown, suddenly the brake pedal was ineffective except when pressed all the way to the floor. Only an emergency maneuver avoided an accident. The car was taken immediately to the dealer, who identified loss of pressure in the brake system, first replacing the master cylinder without improvement, then diagnosing issues with ABS. Carcomplaints.com and other websites list this as an item under government investigation for 2009 Muranos. The car is at approximately 65,000 miles. Attached is the initial diagnostics from the dealer. Subsequent to master brake cylinder replacement, dealer asserted that was not the problem and are now working on ABS.

Brake pedal goes to the floor when ABS activates for no apparent reason. This has happened several times since the vehicle turned 50K miles. It usually happens when turning and hitting a bump at slow speeds. The brake pedal usually recovers after a few days. The vehicle will stop during brake failure but the pedal goes to the floor before it will stop which is very scary and dangerous. I guess someone will have to die because of this factory defect before a recall happens. My 2009 Nissan Murano was bought new and has been very well maintained. It has less than 60K miles on it now. Something has to be done about this brake malfunction before a death occurs from it.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard without warning. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred on slick roadways or after traveling over a bump. At times, in order to stop the vehicle, the contact would have to turn off the engine and restart it in order for the vehicle to operate correctly. The vehicle was taken to williams woody Nissan (3600 S limit ave, sedalia, mo 65301, (660) 827-1403), but no failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was informed by the dealer to drive to any dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing when the failure recurred. Without turning off the vehicle, no failure codes would be detected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a Nissan dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.

My 2009 Nissan Murano has 78,000 miles on it. Sometimes if I brake on a bumpy road the pedal goes all the way to the floor and brake power is significantly reduced. Nobody can tell me why this is happening. I've had the fluid system flushed and the brakes checked. Not even Nissan's dealership understands. Please do something.

While driving the vehicle routinely in town, suddenly the brake pedal became very soft and braking ability was severely impaired. Pedal travel was very high, with pedal almost to the floor before braking could be obtained, and braking power was very low. Vehicle was successfully stopped, and turned off. The brake pedal was pumped with the vehicle turned off, and brake pressure returned. Restarted vehicle and braking system appeared to operate normally. This is the second incident of braking problems with this particular vehicle. See report 1072367 for details of a prior braking failure approximately 1 year earlier.
