Among the other failures of this car (other being trans total failure and alternator/serpentine belt failure) The SRS malfunction light came on way too soon for a new car. I am so surprised at the level of failures on this vehicle. A quick search of www.toyotaproblems.com clearly shows that the 2009 corolla is a super-lemon with the most complaints since the model was introduced. There are Corollas twice the age of mine with no problems.

Why did I, someone who absolutely cannot afford payments, insurance AND repairs all at the same time, have this happen. Everyone told me the only way to get a reliable car was to buy a new Japanese car and drive it like a grandfather. I did just that and continually have problems. This car has sat dead for several months now in front of the house. I still need to make monthly payments on it, keep it fully insured as a requirement from my lender AND pay for city sticker and plates because I don't have a garage. That is a hard pill to swallow when you know you tried your best and it still blew up on me. Thanks a lot Toyota!

Corolla CE 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 111,847 miles

The extended warranty is until 200,000 kms. The Toyota dealer charged me $110 to diagnose the problem then ask the extended warranty people if the repair was covered. Of course it was not covered by the "bumper to bumper" extended warranty. The air bags don't work and the repair is approx. $800. Air bag malfunction should be covered by any warranty since it a serious safety issue and not a wear and tear item. What should I do?
