Toyota did nothing to fix the problem... I went to the dealer and they accused me of trying to get a discount on a good car. I soon found out that the Certified Car had not even had the brakes checked or even an oil change. When I called them out on this. They kicked me out of the Dealership and told me not to come back.

My car pulls left an right at highway speeds, It also jerks and its very scary to drive to work as this is my only means of transportation I've spent the last couple years taking this car in to have it looked at , being told it was nothing wrong it and replacing tires after tires and 3 alignments this yea alone , inspection after inspection at different auto shops ..my mechanic finally said its the control unit or eps etc box .

After learning of the investigation and its dismissal and the Lawsuit on this issue I'm surprised no one at Toyota has told the other owners and what the resolution is for the problem and if they were covering the costs. I am disappointed as I choose Toyota over Honda thinking they had a better vehicle but apparently not..I wont be buying a Toyota again since they don't value their customers and their safety. The Toyota dealership service department I dealt with before couldn't even find my starter issue and charged me for vvti and camshaft gear replacing ,so I'm hesitant to go back to a dealer now.

When I went into the office today, my boss asked me if I had any problems with the steering of my 2009 Toyota Corolla as he has the same exact car. I told him when it's windy and I'm driving home on the highway at speeds of 55 mph or more, I notice the car seems like it's wandering or veering from side to side without me moving the steering wheel. I get a little scared and hold the steering wheel tighter (as if that helps). I told him I attributed it to the wind, but when it's not windy I attribute it to needing a wheel alignment (although I have frequent wheel alignments since I purchased a lifetime wheel alignment from Firestone, mainly because of this problem).

He told me the same thing happens to his 2009 Corolla and he Googled the problem and found many other people had the same problem with 2009 and 2010 Corollas. I asked my husband, who also has a 2009 Corolla (Matrix) and he said the same thing happens to him but when he has his better tires on (he has seasonal changeovers), it doesn't seem as bad. Before today, I thought it was just me, but since my boss, a man who has decades of driving experience and owns many cars of different makes and models including Hondas, BMWs and Volvos, said his Corolla is the only one that does that, it makes me feel like it's not just me and this is a real problem.

I have learned that this is a common problem with many 2009 Corollas. I believe it has to do with the Electric Power Steering. There is little feedback at highway speeds. I would say it is dynamically unstable, meaning a tiny correction one way requires another correction the other way. The car "wanders" on all but perfectly smooth highways and more in the wind. I noticed this immediately after we bought the car. We brought it to the dealer who aligned it on, "The newest and most accurate alignment machine," and it still wanders. Driving it requires your utmost focus and attention. If you change the radio the car may end up crossing the center line. You'd never want to talk on a cell phone while driving. I would not recommend this car. Knowing there is no realistic fix for this problem we plan on selling it as soon as we can.

Bought this 2009 Toyota Corolla new in April 2009 and complained about the steering to dealership every since with no results. Car wanders and very hard to keep in straight line, have to fight the steering at all times.

Problem started Day 1 of ownership... Car feels as if it's being buffeted by high winds, all the time. It wanders in the lane quite badly. My wife thought I was just driving carelessly... until she got behind the wheel. It's quite unnerving. It especially loves to wander as I'm checking over my shoulder for lane changes. Dealer said he'd not heard of this problem before... Plenty of complaints about the steering on this car. Got a Matrix for a service loaner... similar problem, just not as apparent
