Got the transmission flushed at a shop around 120k miles. This was after it was revving hard and seemed like it was slipping gears. Hardly could drive and the check engine light came on. This is the first time I've had the transmission flushed. A few days later the transmission was making a loud grinding noise shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Took it to a transmission shop and they put a used transmission in the car with about 68k miles on it. Seems to be driving better but not 100% as it had before the transmission went bad.

1.8L 5 speed corolla, noticed that 3rd and 4th gear grinds but only when engine temperature is cold. Going into 3rd i will get a 1 seconds grinding noise before fully entering 3rd gear. 4th gear i will get a little bit of grinding but mostly accompanied with a notchy feeling shift. Both issues go away once car engine temperature warms up. 4th gear notchy shifting takes longer to go away then 3rd gear. I put toyota recommended 75w-90 gear oil, and still no fix. Mechanic told me the issue is a worn out 3rd and 4th gear synchronizer. To complete repair requires a transmission rebuild, which is around $2,000. Temporary solution would be to double clutch in order to prolong the life of the gears.

I am noticing that when it's cold, the car grinds into 3rd gear (shifting from 2nd to 3rd) you can keep it from grinding by double clutching until it's warmed up. I am really not happy with this car, there should be no transmission issues at 40k miles. I figure I'll just keep the work around until I can get rid of it this fall, car is not worth putting any money into

Corolla LE 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

We got the transmission shift problem at 75k miles. When the vehicle goes from gear 1 to gear 2, vehicle jerks and no jerking when driving at higher speed. Problem comes whenever driving at low speed. Because 60k warranty on engine is expired, dealer would not fix it for us. So we sold our vehicle away
