When I put the car in reverse and try to back up a hill, the car pops out and back into reverse gear. This is really dangerous as when it pops back into gear the car lunges, sometimes further that expected. Somebody could get hurt if they were behind the vehicle when it lunged. I have read that the issue is due to bad reverse clutches in the transmission and the only fix is to have the transmission rebuilt. If you do have it rebuilt, there is no assurance that the problem will not occur again.
Toyota should consider this a serious safety issue, premature wear out of the reverse clutches, and the subsequent lunging while trying to reverse can cause injuries!
