I'm owner of two Toyota's (Rav4 2011 and Corolla 2004) and both have the same problem. Premature brake wear.
I've driven a 99 Tercel few years ago, in traffic every day, and brakes lasted 120 000 Km. OK, the car is light but my driving didn't change since 99...
On my Corolla genuine Toyota brakes wears at around 30-40 000 Km
My Rav4 2011 have the same issue, brakes are wasted at 30 000 Km
Dealer always tell the same story:
It depend on how you drive in traffic jams or not... yes but 30 000Km is just not enough
I love Toyota's but I must say brake efficiency and wear are really a problem on those 2 models.
