The contact owns a 2005 Audi A4. The contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated and the transmission was causing the vehicle to shake abnormally. The parking, drive and neutral gears were also illuminated simultaneously. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the transmission control module had failed. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

Transmission shifts from drive to second gear on its own and erratically. Dealer diagnoses failure of transmission control module, replaced. And, at approx 90,000 miles, the rear window detached from the cloth top. Dealer explained it could not be repaired. Top was replaced.

2005 Audi cabriolet; back window came unglued; dealer takes no responsibility. Said it was because of the Florida heat; talking with an upholstery, he reported 5 Audi cabriolet's coming in the last week with separated back window just here in naples, fl. Also the ECU transmission control module is out, will not go into reverse, indicator lights flashing; dealer of course said it is not a common problem, which I can see from my research it is!

A4

  • 24,616 miles
I own a 2005 Audi A4. Three months out of warranty and with the odometer at 24,616, the transmission control unit on my car started signaling a fault. I took the car to the dealership, boardwalk Audi in plano, Texas, and was told that the unit was about to go out and that the car could just stop while I was driving down the freeway. The repair cost would be $1490 and it would take up to two weeks to get the tcu because of back orders. If fact, one of the first things the service advisor told me was that they have had to order several of these parts (note - at this one dealership) and that it has taken at least a week to get them in. I also spoke with the service supervisor and service manager and they agreed to pay for 50% of the repairs. Both remarked that it was taking two or sometimes three weeks to get the part because of back orders. It seems like, with that level of incidents, this should be investigated. This car should not be having that type of failure with less than 25,000 miles. II reported it to Audi America who responded with complete indifference.

Audi A4 accelerates and decelerates at will. Does not go into reverse gear all the time. Then car must be turned off and on to get it into reverse gear. Engine races upon acceleration, or downshifts at highway speeds into low gear causing loss of speed. Completely unpredictable. Unsafe at any speed. My peace of mind is shattered. Car at dealership now for repair which is supposed to cost $1500. The integrity of the auto is substantially impaired.
