We purchased our 2010 Audi A4 used in 2012. The car drove great (it was a stick which added to the fun). The car burned about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Dealer did the repairs as part of the oil recall several years ago. About two / three months ago, the EPC light came on, and then the oil pressure warning light starting coming on when I slowed to a stop. Car has about 70,000 miles now. Took it to local repair shop who is good a diagnosing problems and he said he was working on a similar vintage A5 with the same problem that ended up needing new engine.
He replaced the oil sensor, checked oil pan, etc and problem still occurred. Oil pressure was 10psi when it should be 17psi. Then took the car to dealer (at local repair shop's recommendation) who said they could replace the timing belt and balance shafts but wouldn't guarantee it would fix the problem, only true solution is a new engine at a cost of $18,800 (yes, you read that correctly). A used engine would save $2,000-$4,000. So now I have an essentially a junked car.
