I'll be driving to work and all the sudden, the horn starts going off and everybody stares at me like I'm crazy as I'm driving the down the freeway. I took it upon myself to remove the fuse in an attempt to get it to stop going off. I called Chrysler and they told me that since my manufacturers warranty had expired, I would have to be responsible for any repairs related to my problem. They also claim that there weren't any recalled parts for the horn as far they were concerned. Well, it is obvious that I'm not the only having this problem with my Chrysler Sebring horn. It has to be the manufactures defect.

Exact same thing.....horn goes off for absolutely no reason. I'm trying to make it another 6 weeks as that is when my lease is up and it will be Chrysler's problem. Not going to spend $1,000 to have something stupid like this fixed, which their defect.

Sebring 4 Door Sedan V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

New Years Day while sitting in my garage the horn on my car suddenly started blowing. I ran out hitting my Alarm button on my key chain to no avail. I realized it wasn't the car alarm but the horn itself. I pushed all over the place on the horn pad and finally got it to stop. Again it happened sitting in my sons driveway, parking lot at work and while driving about 5 times. Always having to push and pound all over the steering pad trying to get it to stop. Needless to say, I received many dirty looks while driving. My personal mechanic finally unplugged it and said I should check for recalls, he thought he had heard something about the horn problem and that there might by a recall. I searched the web and found that this appears to be a chronic problem with Sebrings. I dropped my car off for it's 45,000 mile maintenance and told the service manager about the horn problem. I also told him that I had unplugged the horn but can still hear the switch in the steering pad clicking fairly often trying to blow the horn. When I asked if this was covered under my extended warrantee I was told they would have to run a $120 diagnostic to find out what the problem was before they would know if it was covered. I told them that all they had to do was call Chrysler or search the web to know what the problem was. I was told that I should call my warranty insurance carrier and see if it's covered. From what I have read in the complaints it may be covered, but when it happens again (which sounds like is a great probability) will it be covered? I did report this problem to Chrysler and another website to see why this has not been issued a recall. But I only received info that it's not been recalled, and what the recall parameters are. I find it hard to believe that a horn blasting incessantly while driving is not a safety hazard. Needless to say I am not impressed with the response I have received from my local Chrysler Dealer or Chrysler itself. Your site says to notify your dealer for warranty info and my dealer tells me to call my warranty insurer myself. Like I want to pay $120 for unnecessary diagnostics when all they have to do is contact Chrysler to know what the problem is. Not to mention the ridiculous cost for fixing this problem because it is intertwined with the expensive Airbag.

A few months ago I began having problems with my horn. Kind of funny at first because I was looking around with everyone else stuck in traffic thinking "who the &$%( is honking", then realized it was me !!! I pulled into a quicky lube place and they pulled the fuse for me. Put off going to dealership b/c I use my own vehicle for work and didn't want to be without it for a while. Two weeks later, my car died in a parking lot. After three visits to the same dealership over a period of 2 weeks (and two weeks worth of rental car charges) they told me there was a short in the wiring and that it had caused the starter to blow out. They replaced it, however, here again today (3 weeks later) it is 2:30 in the morning and I am up because the horn was going off . Had to run outside to hit it to get it to stop. Just made an appointment online with a different dealership so I am hoping that copies of this information plus the info from the other dealership will be helpful in finding the true cause of my honking problem! Will post update if they find something that may be helpful!
