This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Head gasket leaking oil on a car that is only 2 years old and has only 61,000 miles. My mechanic said the car is way to new with not enough miles to be having so many problems. Having to put 1-2 quarts of oil every 2-3 days. Not good for the engine and I am afraid that it may catch fire!.
Vehicle experiences oil leakages and loss of oil while driving. Vehicle taken to an independent repair shop and informed consumer of a head gasket failure. Dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time. Air filter failed and was replaced.. problem happen again.
My car began to leak oil and after several investigations I was told that the problem was caused by a head gasket problem. The problem was discovered by a Dodge dealership in atlantic ga. And that it would cost $800 to fix. I've noticed several complaints about the same problem. The dealership that fixed my car said that did'nt have any recalls from Chrysler on the Dodge Neon.N.
Engine head gasket failed with less that 60,000 miles, head gasket replacement which came from Dodge, was entirely different type and style of head gasket, giving the appearance that Dodge knew there was a problem with the original type gasket
Oil has been leaking from the head gasket or other gasket assembly and I have had to add one to two quarts of oil a week. The car is leaking oil constantly when not in use and the oil is visible around the engine block.
I have a 1999 Dodge Neon. I took it to my local Chrysler dealserhsip on 04/11/2001 because I noticed that there was an oil leak. They told me that the problem with my car was the head gasket. They said the cost of repairs would be around $700. Under their "goodwill policy" they said that they would cover half of the repairs. I refused. I have found numerous complaints as well as an abundance of information pertaining to the Dodge Neon head gasket failure. This is an issue that Chrysler must rectify. Their "goodwill policy" is nothing but a scam to cover their fautly workmanship.
When on highway at 65 mph and without prior warning clutch went out, causing loss of all acceleration. Also, clutch was replaced at 15 thousand miles. Clutch and the flywheel needed to be replaced.
The head gasket blew at 41000 on a car that is only 2 years old. I have researched that DaimlerChrysler is aware of the problem, but refuses to recall the part.
I had an oil leak so I went to gainesville Dodge for a diagnostic test ane oil change. I was told the head gasket needed to be reworked. Later that afternoon a former employee of gainesville Dodge informed me that it was a known problem with that car and the dealer had been replacing the part under the goodwill policy.
Head gasket went out in vehicle and Chrysler says that it is not their problem.vehicle is only 2 yrs and should not have this problem.Chrysler stated that they know this is a common defect in Neons"trunck will not remain open with out support.Chrysler says this is normal"it falls even on level ground.too many problems for such a new vehicle.
When driving in heavy rain, or driving through several puddles, car begins to grind and becomes difficult to maneuver. It seems to lose power as well, as going up a hill is a struggle with the car in this condition. This has caused many near miss incidents with other vehicles. Dealership tried to stimulate the problem when I reported it (while still under warrantee) but were unable to recreate the problem or to resolve the problem. The second, less serious problem, safetywise, is the massive oil leak from the head. The car requires 1 to 2 quarts of oil at every gasoline fillup. This could conceivably, if went unchecked cause engine failure and loss of vehicle control.
Taken car in many times for "engine checklight"--cause #4 cylinder mis-firing or not-firing--light reset-problem keeps returning--cd playes/speakers replaced-cd player skipped frequently-speakers cracked--windshield replaced 10mos after car purchase--unidentified leak--passenger side from under dashboard--window seals replaced-leak continues--leak checked again-dealer claims to find no leak--problem continues.
