Front end problems. Replaced the sway bar end links twice. The second time now. Front drive shaft being replaced now and is currently on order. Rack and pinion is spraying fluid underneath and being replaced now but waiting on bushings. Bushings did not come in box. Noisiest front suspension on a vehicle I have ever had. Had to replace both transmission filters 10,000 miles or so ago. It got to where you would crank it and drive a few blocks and the first stop you come to it would not take off again and the engine light would come on. Then you get the programmer out to reset the code and it would finally move again and drive a few days before it would do it again. Replacing the filters and fluid fixed that issue. I have had to replace the Map sensor twice. Rough idle and hard start a few weeks ago. Replacing the MAP sensor and PCV valve helped alot. My main complaint is the front suspension. I have been hearing other people complain about theirs also. My previous 04 Ford f150 had no suspension or sensor issues and I put over a 100k on that truck. Shame on Dodge!

The differential was fixed in 2011...and 12,444 miles later it froze up again. Scott Robinson Chrysler says its no longer under warranty and could cost up to 2K $$. How can Dodge Chrysler allow this to happen to a truck with the reputation of being "RAM TOUGH"? No so convinced.

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

i have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD that I bought new. At 2000 miles the transmission locked up at about 45 Mph in 2WD. The transmission was replaced but not the rear axle or drive shaft. It now has 94,000 miles on it. The rear axle has been completely rebuilt NINE times and is now failing for the 10th time. Chrysler will not rebuild it again because I took them to court and obtained a settlement. I have had the drive shaft replaced as it was finally discovered to be twisted from the first event. I use the truck to tow about 5000 pound trailers.

Is there a better axle than the one I have? I purchased a used axle with 51,000 miles on it. What can I do to make it last? I am gong to do an oil analysis on the replacement axle as well as the one that is failing. What can be causing the failure of these axles? I had the framed checked and it is slightly out of line from the lock up, but not more than a quarter inch. The failure is usually in the input bearing area. Once they installed the spacer backwards. Are these guys just incompetant and should I find a real specialist. A lot to think about. I do have a good lawyer, that's for sure. Don't let them tell you that you can't sue if you are not under the lemon law. There are many other laws you can use.
