Flex Limited 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

4 days after test driving and purchasing the car, I started to notice a shudder when the car was under light to medium acceleration around 35-60mph. Thought maybe it was a misfire or driveshaft problem, but upon investigating both of those avenues, neither seemed to be the case. Read online most likely problem is a failing torque converter. Took it to the transmission shop in town for them to look at it, and they said my transmission fluid was full of metal shavings and that more than likely the whole transmission would have to be replaced, with an estimated cost of over $4k. I'm trading this thing in at the end of the week, and will be letting the dealership know that it was very "convenient" to have a car start failing right after purchasing it, with the dealer saying there were zero problems with the vehicle.

Flex SE 1.6L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

The transmission in this car is junk. Ford has extended the warranty to 100,000 miles on the transmission. The transmission shudders, shakes, surges and hesitates on acceleration. Car is totally unsafe to drive. Has been this way since new. If you take it for repair you are told this is normal and that the car has to be reprogrammed to learn how you drive. Baloney. At 41,000 miles I took the car to the dealership and the service tech admitted the car was totally unsafe. They cannot repair it. They cannot get repair parts. They told me I'm on a waiting list for 2 to 3 months. What good is the warranty being extended if you cannot get parts. This must be an extensive problem if you cannot get repair parts. Ford is ignoring my calls. I had to trade the car and get rid of this junk. I took a tremendous loss. Ford will never sell me another car. I will probably join the class action lawsuit that has been filed on this vehicle. Do not buy a fod
