I was informed by state farm insurance that my 2008 Lexus ES350 does not qualify for an airbag discount because they have determined that the airbags are unsafe on this model. I have checked the NHTSA recall database and there are no recalls on this model. What does state farm know that you do not. I do not want to drive an unsafe automobile. Please respond.

While driving I noted that the passenger airbag status light indicated "off". it should be indicating "on". further monitoring the next few days showed the passenger airbag status light to be intermittent when a passenger was seated and the car moving. Intermittent as in sometimes "on" and sometimes "off". this is unacceptable so the car went to the Lexus dealer (Lexus of cherry hill, NJ) for extended warranty service. Several attempts (involving replacement parts and calibrations, etc) since then to fix the intermittent problem have failed. While driving on October 31 the airbag status light again showed "off" again, but in time re-set itself to "on". this is the nature of the intermittent problem. It is now November 2, 2014, and the dealer claims they have done everything they know to do to fix the problem. An unsafe condition still exists.
2008 Lexus ES 350. Consumer writes in regards to non deployment of airbags while suffering a head on collision. The consumer stated his wife had just pulled off from a stop sign, and turned left into oncoming traffic. His wife's speed was 5 mph and the oncoming vehicle was doing 35-40 mph. According to the letter sent by Toyota, a review of the photographs showed there was no direct frontal impact, but an angular impact to the left front corner. Which was confirmed by the fact that the front portions of the vehicle were pushed to the right.
