Two ignition coils failed preventing two cylinders from firing. The motor barely ran, shook, felt like it would stall any moment, wouldn't accelerate. Six or seven error lights were all on or flashing in the dash.

I took it to a local repair chain (Conrad's in Medina, OH). They diagnosed the problem ($55), then advised me to replace all three ignition coils on the bad side and to replace all the plugs. The parts were:

Ignition coils - $110 each, $330 for three

Spark plugs - $75 for set of six

Labor - $353. $104 per hour. Estimated job to take 3.4 hours. Job actually took less than two hours. If you have this work done, or any work done, make sure you agree to pay only for the actual hours worked.

I found the ignition coil online for $135 for a set of six. When I pointed this out to the mechanic I got a lot of hemming and hawing about online prices, can't trust the parts, we warranty these parts, blah blah blah. I told him to stop work because I could buy the part online and find someone to install them. He made a "phone call to corporate" and then came back with a price for the coil of $52 each. I told him to proceed. Still gouged me on the parts but I couldn't wait to have the car working again.
