oil cooler hose failed, engine damaged

The failure of the original rubber oil cooling line has been a big problem for all Lexus and Toyota 3.5L 6 cylinder engines made from 2005 through 2009. I believe that this engine had a Canadian Government mandated recall several years ago. No such recall was instituted in the U.S.

The replacement part has been redesigned as an all metal hose system. This is a high pressure hose, failure of which is sudden, resulting in all of the oil blowing out of your engine in less than minute. My 2008 Lexus RX 350 with 133,000 miles has major engine damage as a result. I heard the engine start knocking as I was driving into my neighborhood going 25 MPH. No warning lights came on to alert me to the low oil pressure issue. I immediately shut down the car, and had it towed to Lexus the next morning.Too late; engine damaged.

My question is since Lexus is obviously aware that this part is prone to failure, and can destroy your engine, why would their customers not receive at least a service advisory in the mail, and a recommendation when servicing at the dealership, to replace this poorly designed part. I think most Lexus drivers would have addressed this issue if Lexus has come forward and said something about it. I know I would have.

I guess the only good news to all of this is I am no longer upset about the factory mandated dashboard replacement for my car (mine is falling apart!) that I have been waiting 2 years for. I doubt the engine will last long enough to ever take of their generous offer.
