The contact owns a 2007 Mazda Mazda5. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 15 mph. The contact had to shut off the vehicle for a few moments in order for the vehicle to begin to perform normally. The dealer attempted to diagnose the failure but was unable to determine the cause. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

We purchased our 2007, Mazda 5 new in Jan. 2007 from a local dealership. At a little over 9,000 miles the car began to hesitate and we returned to the dealership for the first service to "fix" the problem. To fast forward, here we are Dec. 31st, 2011 and now we are dealing with not only hesitation and stalling, but now the car actually "bucks" while driving it only adding to the dangers of driving it. This is a well documented problem as we have continued to return it the same dealership each time only to be told it was "fixed". this has become a safety concern, and a financial woe. Why the lack of concern by Mazda and other agencies that know of this problem but have not made Mazda admit the problem and recall these cars before someone is killed. Not everyone is in the position to just buy another car if they seem to have a "lemon". I would really like to know my recourse in all of this....to drive a unsafe car", to hope I or a family member won't be hurt of killed in it until such time I can trade it in? and then feel guilty that some other person is purchasing my unsafe car" I hope that there is "some hope" by contacting your Agency. If nothing else if you won't help me, maybe I can warn someone else about this car.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100 miles
2007 Mazda5 with automatic transmission stalls ocassionally when accelerating from a stop at traffic lights. Happens most often when starting on an uphill grade. Dealership was unable to observe the problem and therefore unable to fix it. In addition, the engine intermittenly loses power for about 1 second while driving at approximately 20 mph. This happens about 4-5 time per week, never more than once on the same day. It usually happens within the first 1/2 mile of driving the car. The dealership was also unable to observe this problem or fix it. I expressed my concern to the dealership and to Mazda customer assistance that stalling while pulling into traffic could be a life threatening occurrence, but they insisted that nothing could be done until the problem worsens to the point where a mechanic can observe it. The fact that many others have mentioned the same problem on online user forums did not seem to make a difference. I do not feel safe driving this otherwise wonderful vehicle.
