My accelerator has stuck on many occasions in this vehicle while driving, especially when cold. This has happened at various times on city streets and highways. I have never had an accident, but it does cause problems and could easily cause an accident. My vehicle is ten years old, but the mileage is only 75,500.

The contact owns a 2006 Mazda Tribute. When the vehicle was started in the morning, the accelerator would not engage when the gear was in drive. Even after driving, when stopped at a light, the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was very difficult to depress. Occasionally, the pedal would respond normally when it was depressed on the right side. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it could not be diagnosed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

When cold, gas pedal will not depress. Becomes firm and resistant to pressure. Have to slam on pedal, but receive no power from engine---happens alot when trying to turn corners, will not accelerate- can cause severe if not fatal accident if this occurs at the wrong time. Please force Mazda to issue recall for this part, could be related to throttle body as well.

I was unable to stop my vehicle in time to avoid a collision with another car. It felt to me that I had no control over the car because the engine was racing. I applied the brakes hard but the car would not stop. The traffic light had just changed and I was accelerating to go through the light. That is when the vehicle went out of my control. After the accident, I tried to drive my car away from the scene but the engine was racing and I could not control the car. That is when I realized that the vehicle is not drivable because the engine appears to be stuck with the throttle open. I tried to drive it but had to use the emergency brake to stop it.

Driving vehicle on a residential road, as I accelerated up small hill, transmission did not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Rpms spiked to 5000 then the transmission shifted hard into next gear. Since this incident the problem has occurred more frequently, no matter what the elevation. Because of this problem the Tribute has no power and no acceleration until shifting. This is extremely dangerous when pulling out or crossing traffic. Today, each time I am at a stop, the transmission sticks in 2nd gear until the rpms spike then it will shift. The Tribute has only 76500 miles. It is adult owned and well maintained. Please review this as a possible recall issue to avoid so many others spending thousands on repairs and possible injury from accident!

On several occasions my vehicle has had a sticky gas pedal. I alerted the dealership in the past advising of this same issue regarding my prior 2003 Mazda Tribute vehicle. I was told in the past to change the gas utilized. In addition, I was recently advised to bring the vehicle in for service due to a possible recall. My car is now at the dealership and I have been advised there are no recalls and I will be charged$357 to have a ring put on the left wheel causing a malfunction in the braking system (ABS light). This is after taking the car in due to the gas pedal sticking causing me to ride onto the curb with my babies to avoid another accident. Still I am not being advised that the gas issue will be corrected. Mazda has caused me so much stress, time, and physical pain. It is unfortunate that someone has to actually die for the research to begin!

As the weather gets cold, the gas pedal becomes harder to depress, and at times will not depress at all. This has caused numerous near misses when attempting to accelerate around a turn as the pedal will lock in place and the vehicle will not accelerate at all. It takes significant force to depress the pedal, to the point of stomping on it, and even then it does not always work. This is a very serious safety issue, one that will at some point result in a very severe if not deadly crash, and no one seems the slightest but interested in fixing the problem.

Tribute 4-cyl

  • 54,600 miles
For the past year, the vehicle's accelerator/gas pedal has at times felt "stuck" so that the driver must press down harder than normal to accelerate. Originally the driver was under the impression that the mat was obstructing the gas pedal's ability to be depressed. Over time however, the vehicle has shown an increased difficulty in the gas pedal being depressed. Most recently, on January 23, 2014, the vehicle was idling while in traffic. When the driver attempted to press down on the accelerator, the gas pedal did not move. The driver was forced to press hard on the accelerator, and when doing so, the accelerator became "stuck" and quickly jolted the vehicle forward. The driver had to immediately press down on the brake to avoid collision with the vehicle in front. The speed at the time was less than 15 miles per hour and the driver was able to come to a stop avoiding collision. Since the incident on January 23, the vehicle's gas pedal has increasingly shown more "sticking" and has become very hard to accelerate without applying a great amount of pressure down on the pedal. This causes concern as the vehicle quickly accelerates in a jump-like manner rather than slowly accelerating to a comfortable driving speed. The 2006 Mazda Tribute is a 4 cylinder and the manufacturer has not issued a recall at this time.

More frequently now the gas pedal sticks and cannot be pressed down after releasing it for a short period of time. It seems that the throttle cable gets locked in a single position and then cannot be moved without first allowing the vehicle to slow down to an unsafe speed or unless it is pressed really hard. I read there were similar recalls to other models of this vehicle but not mine.

While attempting to accelerate, the gas pedal will get stuck in the upward position not allowing the car to accelerate. It has happened periodically throughout the duration of ownership, but has become more prominently in the recent year or so. The vehicle currently has approximately 107K miles but has occurred at much lower mileage. There has been no recall posted, but many others have shared concern. This is a huge safety risk especially when merging onto highways or accelerating in traffic.
