For a luxury vehicle, this should not be an issue. This should not be a regular maintenance item like tires, brakes or oil. Out of half dozen makes of vehicles that I have owned, this has been the only vehicle with this kind of problem.

Diagnostic - $144

Repair - $1000

Had car for 2 weeks. Disabled 2 hours from home. Now I have to drive to the dealership (2.5 hours from home) to display license and registration in person. (It cannot be faxed or emailed) before they will order the part.

Could not start my car while parked in grocery store lot at night.Put key in the ignition and got a message on the dash to remove key from ignition. The alarm system and headlight and interior lights were all working so it was not the battery. The next day, my car had to be towed to the dealership which cost $470. They determined that the steering wheel lock was defective and needed to be replaced at the cost of $1542. I did some research and this is a common problem with 2008 C300 and should be recalled by the manufacturer.

C300 ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Drove car about 150 miles on this day. I reached my destination and when I returned to proceed to my next destination the car would not start. The key would turn all the way to the left but nothing would happen. The computer was telling me to remove my key. Called a tow truck and when they got there they proceeded to try to jump start but car would not start.
