Shift lever inoperative/ erratic: 2000 Clk430 being driven when transmission refused to shift from low gear, then second gear, and finally not at all! had vehicle towed to shop, shop found shifter had gone bad. I didn't know the transmission was electronically controlled. $1500 later it now runs out fine. Mileage was 77K.
