I had noticed an occasional fuel smell for several months usually after filling up with gas. On August 17th my car shut off and would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer (non-Mercedes) where I purchased the car and have it serviced. After doing the diagnostics, the service manager told me the car needed a fuel pump, filter and gas tank assembly. This seems to be a problem that has affected several models of Mercedes including the E-350. I contacted Mercedes-Benz USA and they told me the problem would have to be diagnosed at a Mercedes dealership. I had the car towed to a dealership in Jacksonville and their diagnosis was the same as the one that I got from my dealer. Looking online this seems to be an ongoing issue for Mercedes models. After online research, I saw Mercedes-Benz agreed to extend the warranty on the gas tank assembly from 4 years/50,000 miles to 15 years with no mileage limitations. After talking with Mercedes USA and the Mercedes dealer, they've told me my model is excluded. I'm assuming it's because I have an AMG package. I don't understand why they aren't extending the warranty to my model since my problem is the same as the other models covered by the extended warranty. How many other Mercedes owners are experiencing the same issue with Mercedes.

Very strong fuel odor inside the vehicle every time I fill up full tank. That bad odor slowly but not completely goes away while the fuel level goes down. It's hard to stay in a car or drive for long period of time. Terrible situation. First time reporting this problem. And the problem occurs on ongoing basis, every single time I pump gas into my 2008 E350 Sport.
