So my father in law had the same problem many of you have had with the gear shifter breaking off. I took the console apart to investigate. Most auto parts stores said it was a dealer only part which was quoted at $1350... I did find the part online through dorman for only $56.... yes it is a pain to get to, but after you add the dealer labor of $250, I think saving the $1500 is well worth it. Still unsure why Ford didn't recall this as I am finding many complaints of this faulty equipment... Maybe a lawsuit would initiate a recall
