2005 Mercury Sable, auto trans, 43,000 miles, up to date on service, no warning of failure, driving in slow lane coasts to stop with engine revving. Not comfortable to be stuck on busy road in detroit in the dark with cars swerving to avoid me. Identified as the spline on the torque converter. Apparently this is a common problem with this vehicle and its twin the Taurus. townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.F11889C (see #53).
