Generally speaking a very solid and reliable car, I actually racked 25k miles the first year I owned it. The problem started with a smell of gas that I couldn't pinpoint for a while. After seeing where the gas was dripping it was taken to a trustworthy local mechanic who found the leak but was unable to be fixed. Basically the leak comes from the top of the tank, the actual fuel pump itself. The problem is that the pump has two metal hoses that hold the pump and cannot be replaced without replacing the whole hanger assembly. Also the rust in this car is so bad that mechanics could not remove the gas tank. It seems to be a very common problem for this particular vehicle. There's all kinds of cars for sale in craigslist and facebook with the same problem. Parts are hard to find for this car and online. prices are around 300 dollars for the part itself. I might try to do a hillbilly repair and if it doesn't work its going to junkyard then....
