Mitsubishi Pajero's were recalled for the Timing Chain Tensioner - a problem that could result in the timing chain breaking. That "recall" involved an inspection by a Mitsubishi mechanic to check the timing chain for signs of wear. This was done on my car before I owned it. Presumably there were no signs of wear and nothing further was done about it. The timing chain on my car broke when I stopped the car so I presumed no damage to the engine would have been done. Apparently the valve has been bent on one of the cylinders which would mean it would only be running on 3. They are suggesting I drop a 2nd hand engine into the car - otherwise I am left with a car that I paid $US19350 ($AU25000 - Australian) in 2017 - worthless. I have tried to contact Mitsubishi, but they have not responded to my correspondence. Surely they have some responsibility here. A mechanic told me he had NEVER seen a Pajero timing chain break before. Well now he has.
