A 1998 oldsmoblie Intrigue is experiencing the exact same symptoms as recall below. Dealer evaluated vehicle and recommended replacing steering gear assembly. This is the exact same action the recall recommended. But my vehicle is VIN number is outside the recall. Recall - steering gear pinion bearing separation bulletin no: 03062 car has intermittent loss of power steering assist when making left turns, usually at low speeds. Power assist is normal in right hand turns.

When applying brakes and turning steering wheel, vehicle pulls and makes a creaking noise. Took vehicle in to check brakes, and dealer stated it was the gear rack. Contact GMC, and they stated this was not a safety issue.

Engine/transmission whine reported to dealer at 31360 miles (dealer could not duplicate). Transmission failed at 40976 miles (engine revs rose and car slowed - on interstate at 65 mph), transaxle replaced and whine no longer present. Even out of warranty, Oldsmobile paid hafl of the $2800 bill, but feel that failure at this mileage is totally unacceptable. Complaint to olds at their web site got a response that they are sorry, its out of warranty. Bearing in HVAC motor failed at 34909 miles. Clunk in steering fixed by replacement of steering rack and interim shaft.

This car has had thirteen garage visits under warranty so far to either diagnose problems or correct problems. Tomorrow, it will have the intermediate steering shaft replaced for the second time by holmes Oldsmobile to correct a popping sensation in the steering. Other repairs in this regard have been replacement of the control arms and the steering rack. The front brake rotors first warped last year and were turned on 08/19/98; they warped again and were replaced on 12/10/98. On 6/11/99, this second set for the frontwere turned again along with both rear rotors due to warpage; this is grossly excessive. I understand that Oldsmobile has discontinued these brakes as an option (labelled "autobahn" ) because of quality problems. Please investigate this situation for me as both the steering and brakes evidence of durability problems do not instill confidence.
