The car would not start. After several attempts the security light came on indicating a problem with the passlock system. I kept trying and the car finally started. I brought the car to a mechanic who told me the ignition switch needed to be replaced. I was told this was a very common problem with gms and GM knows about it. The switch was $185 and with labor the bill came to $350. The Oldsmobile dealer said this was such a common problem with these cars that they keep many switches in stock.

The vehicle anti-theft system was on. The consumer could not start the vehicle. The dealership repaired the problem once, but did not resolve the problem. This was an intermittent problem.
