I thought we had a major problem when my Firebird started acting up. Sometimes it would start and run like a top and others, nothing. We check the battery, the cables, all the standard stuff and found no problems. Finally a mechanic where my son's dad works suggested checking the chip in the key. I took my keys to a local dealership and had them make a replacement set (with a new chip) and never had another problem with the ignition system. Apparently the chips wear out over time and need to be replaced.
