Security light went on my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am while driving. Upon reading owner's manual which told me to go to an authorized dealer. $500 later I have a new passlock sensor on my car as I cannot afford to be stranded by a vehicle that will not start.

Passlock going bad on car will cost about $400 to get fixed this is very common in GM car garages claim. I believe it a factory defect.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am passlock feature constantly causes my vehicle to not start. I have been stranded at times for over an hour, missed work, etc. This is a safety issue as it could shut down making an accident possible.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT - the ignition theft deterrent passlock system malfunctions - prevents car from starting - "security" light remains on. Very common problem - many owners complaints are found here: www.pontiacowners.com/Pontiac/tags/passlock/ GM needs to pay for this via a recall.

Passlock on my 1999 Grand Am will not let my car start sometimes and I have to wait 10 min. To get it started, after I bought this car and this first happen to me I ask the guy I bought this from and he said he has had the same problems with it so this has been going on, and from reading on the internet forms this is happing to alot of people with this car and many other models.

There where no events leading up to the failure. I had purchased this car about 6 months ago (a 99 Grand Am SE), and the security light has slowly been going off more frequently. Just last night it stranded me for 30 minutes (when the alarm goes off, I have to leave the key in the ignition for about 15 minutes). This is becoming a huge hassle, and really is making the car more trouble then it's world.

Security light\passcode, passlock ignition on Grand Am GT vehicle unable to start when security light comes on- anti-theft system is defective. Must leave key in on position to reset- takes a whole 15 minutes to reset- late appts, school delays, etc... now passcode feature is defecting the ABS & trac features on car- cost of repair for new ignition system & other necessary parts relating to passlock = security defect in car from dealership is close to $600, this amount does not include labor charges.

The vehicle would not start. The mechanic stated the only code found was an anti-theft.
