The brake light failed when the brakes were pressed. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership to have the mechanic determine the cause of the problem which was unknown. Please provide additional information.

Rear lights use two bulbs on each side. Each bulb has two filaments (one for parking light, one for brake light). The brake light filament of the inside bulb on the left side of the car does not work. Further investigation led to the conclusion that the bulb socket connection had some sort of material interfering with the electrical connection. I have personally observed the exact same problem in roughly 20% of all 1999 Grand Am that I have seen on the road.
