The contact owns a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact stated that the paint on the hood of her vehicle abnormally chips. While driving approximately 50 mph, she noticed flames on the panel of the front driver's side window. She used a small bottle of water to douse the flames and smoke. Currently, all of the power windows are inoperative. The vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failures. The failure and current mileages were 70,000. Updated 06/09/09 updated 06/09/09.

A few days ago, I've had a third window malfunction. Three my windows dropped down inside of the door. The first window did this the first week I bough the car(7/06) and was not covered by my warranty. The second window stopped working over 6 mos ago and now the third one. I know someone else who has the same problem and started with her back windows. The winter months are here and I have kids that are asthmatic. I was given a quote of $ 300 to replace mechanism of each window! how terrible for something that was not caused on my part.

Rear brake lights not working, but third center brake light is working. Took to mechanic (pep boys) who changed the brake pads, rotors, brake fluid and replaced the bulbs and fuses, (as well as a motor w/reg for the driver's side rear window, serpentine belt, alternator drive belt, tie rod outer and oil change). When I got the car back, realized they never fixed the problem. Returned the car and told it was the multifunction switch at a price of $450. This is great considering my bill for everything was $1,500, and the problem I brought it in for (brake lights) was never fixed. On web site: www.autoweb.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/2831 there are approximately 119 complaints all about the multifunctional switch on pontaic vehicles. I am hoping that at some point the issue will be addressed to save other unsuspecting poor souls that bought a Pontiac (Grand Prix GT).

The front passenger side window would not go up. The regulator had to be replaced at a cost to the owner. Then antifreeze started to leak onto the engine. The problem has not been repaired to date. The intake manifold gasket was replaced and the fuel pressure regulator was replaced.

I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, 4 door. On three separate occasions the motor on the automatic windows has gone out on three different windows. All three times the motor was replaced by a Pontiac dealership. The last time was November 2004 and the warranty was expired. Because this was an ongoing problem I fought the $500 bill with the dealership and eventually GM fixed the window at no cost to me. A friend of mine has a government issued Pontiac, same year, make & model. She has had two window motors replaced.

Driver and passenger side front and rear windows have had to be replaced within 1 year. When vehicle was taken in for first window, they could not "duplicate" the problem, worked fine for them, but not 2 days later after the warranty was up, the window would not roll up or down. Since then 2 more windows have been replaced.

Automatic windows in vehicle have failed. The rear-passenger side windows has been fixed twice. The other three windows have gone out within a couple months of each other. The vehicle is only 2 years old and the windows have failed 5 times. Each repair cost approximately $350 a piece.
