Worst car ever owned. Made the mistake of parking uphill during the rain. There would literally be a 6 inch puddle in the back passenger floor and everything else was also soaked. We used a clear sealant around the windshield and luckily, problem was fixed. Also, car dies while traveling 70 mph down the expressway randomly. Reduced engine power and stalls numerous times. Seems to be worse in traffic, warmer days, and any other random time it decides to. Have replaced a few different parts and been researching other's experiences for months. Car will not shift out of 1st gear for a minimum of 1 mile every single trip.

Does anyone know of any fast fixes just to get this car traded in before it kills somebody? How is this issue not taken care of by GM considering the accidents and deaths caused by the Cobalt randomly shutting off?

Grand Prix GT 3800 V6

I have a 2005 Grand Prix GT which only has 51968 original KM driven on it. I purchased it new from a GM dealer and I'm the only owner this car has had. It's a prime example of a lemon if there ever was one but GM has done nothing for me since the warranty expired.

On September 3 2014 I drove across 2 lanes of oncoming traffic when my cars engine died without warning and I lost my power steering while I was entering a bend in the road driving the speed limit which was 80 KM an hour. I was lucky the oncoming traffic had been stopped at a red light just prior to my incursion into their lanes which gave them enough of a gap between them and me to stop and allow me to get my car off to the side of the road. After restarting the car there was a "Reduced Engine Power" message. I tried driving it but I had to put the gas pedal to the floor to get it to move and then the engine would die or if would die if I stopped. Sometimes when it died it would not start again right away and would display a message stating "Starting Disabled Due To Electronic Throttle Control".

I wasn't too far from home when this first happened and I didn't have my cell with me to call for a tow, I was able to eventually limp home but it took a number of restarts and close calls even while driving at slow speeds because of the number of times the engine died while trying to make turns resulting in the loss of power steering resulting in the car turning very wide into the oncoming lane.

I had it towed to my dealers where they charged me $370 for work which consisted of replacing the gas pedal sensor. I also had them perform an 81 point inspection which everything passed except for 2 tires with worn tread. That same night my daughter drove me to pick up my car at the dealers, I had her follow me in her car and luckily I did because my cars engine died 3 more times on me, once while driving and twice while idling in park. My car is back at the dealers which spent all day today trying to reproduce my issue and couldn't, they are keeping it for the weekend so they can start looking into it again on Monday.

......How does GM know how many people were killed because of the infamous ignition problem associated with their giant recall as opposed to similar problems as what I just experienced and am still having to deal with.

All I can say is that if I should happen to be killed and/or God forbid I end up killing somebody else with this car after it is supposedly fixed again I want to make sure it is looked into properly and not written off as a simple accident.

Update from Sep 12, 2014: Well the dealer replaced my PCM with the hopes that it will fix my problem but I'm not feeling lucky since they are only fishing and guessing. The cost to me is almost $900cn.this time on top of the $370cn I paid last week only to have the problem happen again.

Here's the real kicker....the dealer had a new PCM delivered to them yesterday but after installing it in my car they found that it didn't work. So they had another PCM delivered this morning which is installed now and as far as they are concerned my car is fixed.

I would just like to add that I had work done on my car back in April 2010 which also required the PCM to be replaced. Counting the PCM that was delivered and found to be no good my car has now had 4 PCM units in the last 4 years. 1. the original PCM, 2. the PCM installed in 2010, 3. the defective PCM installed and removed yesterday 4. the new PCM installed today.....there should be a recall on their PCM modules lol

I'd like to say that if you don't get any more updates from me related to this problem that it's probably fixed but the reality of this case is that no news is not necessarily good news....you may not get any more updates because I could pick up my car today and get killed tomorrow because of the same issue.

While driving my car cuts off, almost been in several wrecks due to this. I have replaced several things and thought we had fix the problem. Changed everything that the codes have said. Was driving this week and it cut off again in traffic and took the key out, it was so hot It could burn you. Wonder if it is the ignition switch? It is too dangerous to drive.

The engine light comes on says ENGINE POWER REDUCE then you have to pull over shut it down for about 30 sec then you can go again. Ive had it in the shop over 10 times never nothing so tried of it. I have 3 grand children and they were in the car with me and it did it, I was on a bridge no where to go. I was praying that I could get it going again before we got hurt, I think this is very DANGEROUS and they really need to find out why this does this. Someones going to get hurt real bad if they don't!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent over $500 so far and no closer to a fix for the problem. Car cuts off and says reduced engine power and starting disabled due to electronic throttle control. Car just cuts off while drive and you can only brake. Dealer can't figure out why it is doing this! Any suggestions?

Engine has stalled about 8 times since I bought it in July of 2010. Took it to 7 different people, all of them gave me the same answer, "We didn't find any issues". I had the dealers test 7 different issues ive had with this car. They found nothing. Stalling at highway speeds? Sounds a little dangerous to me. I loose everything but braking. I have a little steering, but hard to turn since there's no power. Possible electric issue? Been told it could be one of the many wires in this hunk of junk...but electric issues are hard to find, and will take me a day just to locate a few of the wires I might not even need. Car isnt worth keeping, but I owe too much to get rid of it.
