Passenger air bag sensor is unable to detect presence of a passenger. Air bag warning light now remains on at all times. I have been reading about this issue, especially since GM has recalled other vehicles for air bag safety. Also, I have noticed and heard several other Pontiac Solstice and Saturn sky owners having this issue. GM is charging me $1,000 for parts and labor. I am filing this complaint in an attempt to raise this issue since it involves safety of passengers and driver in the car.

  • 137,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The contact stated that when anything would touch the key while in the ignition, it would cause the vehicle to stall sporadically and without warning. The failure was recurring. Additionally, the air bag warning light illuminated without warning. The contact had to disable the air bag sensor more than once to get the sensor light to turn off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred before the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 14V047000 (air bags and electrical system), in which the vehicle was included. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

The service air bag light is illuminated on the dash panel the airbag sensor for the passenger side does not change from on to off. It always remains lit off. I have researched the issue and there are numerous complaints relating to the passenger side air bag seat sensor failing. The part alone is over $300 and to have a dealer repair is over $700. Regardless, this is a safety issue and is widespread on Pontiac Solstice and Saturn sky models. GM has yet to issue recall for this issue. What are they waiting for? this seems similar in nature to the current recall for the ignition switch where up to 300 people have died. The issue does not clear itself and is always on the dash panel warning system.

Air bag service light came on at 39000 miles, found on internet what the problem was, called dealership in alvin tx and asked about recall, told no recall and I said "this is a safety item that needs a recall", was told by service writer that "air bags are not a safety item, only reason they are put in a car is because of being mandatory by government, and as long as passenger has seat belt on then everything should be fine", who are these fools that General Motors hire" do they really believe this S*&%? or is it a way to get people from pushing for repairs" anyways, I want to sell this vehicle but who would buy a vehicle for a reasonable price for a death trap, well, I will never purchase another vehicle that GM builds, they wont stand by their products or for the customers that have made them soooo much money over the years, and with our taxes that bailed them out and paid to keep them with jobs they just keep screwing the customers over, when will everyone wise up and just shut them down with the quality that they hand out, well, for now on I am going to do my part.

The passenger air bag has not been working for some time now. I took it to GM dealer and they could not give me a reason why the air bag is not working. GM said they could replace the part but it was not under warranty. Im trying to understand how many accidents need to occur before there is a recall for this issue.

I had a passenger sit in my Pontiac Solstice and the air bag sensor started flashing on and off. The suddenly it stayed on and gave me a warning light. This is very dangerous because now all my passengers do not have a functioning air bag. I have seen countless owners on the Solstice forums also have the same issue.

The passenger air bag sensor failed, this leaves the passenger unprotected in the event of an accident. This is the second time this has happened on my car. The first was on 5/18/2009 at 15501 miles and was replaced under warranty well this time the warranty has expired and it is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), by viewing the Solstice forum on-line it is apparent that this is a common problem and as a safety issue needs to be addressed by your Agency. The web site is: www.solsticeforum.com/forum/F12/dic-service-air-bag-familiar-anyone-69046/ please investigate this issue and require GM to replace all defective units. Thank you
