Pontiac Sunfire 2003. Once in a while, one never knows why it happens - engine shuts off when idling. On one occasion the car was on the road, trying to make a turn, slowed down the car to make the turn. Naturally, engine rpm go down; but then the engine dies, steering wheel locks and there is a near miss colliding with another car.

I managed once to do the following - the engine turned off on its own while I was waiting at traffic light. Right away I took it to mechanic without turning the engine off until it was checked. The board computer memory didn't record any failure. It could be bad electrical contacts, or anything around the ignition computer, etc. Who knows. Thankfully, it doesn't happen often and hopefully it stays like that.

While driving on the highway the car stalled and slowly stopped in the middle of the highway. There was a tow truck close by that came to me and towed the car to the dealership were i purchased this car three weeks ago. Suggested that the dealership should pay for the tow that was $145.00. They did and fixed the car for free since it was under the 30 day warranty.

You love this one...

Bought car Aug 14th 03, First stalled at an intersection one month later! Hadn't even made the first payment! Took car to dealer, couldn't fix, couldn't duplicate problem. Still have same problem now at 260,000 km's. Learned to deal with it. Car always restarts thank God. Annoying and dangerous. GM I'm sure knows what is wrong & won't deal with righting the situation $$$. Seems to be a computer logic problem but not sure. If you turn car off for a few moments and restart - usually stalling goes away for awhile.

My engine cut off on a mountain road.... going downhill.... and because of that I lost my brakes and power steering. I do not know how I made it to the edge of the road but I did and pulled the emergency brake! I turned the car off and waited a few minutes then started it back up and had NO problems with it after that. (I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have it looked at!)
