After owning a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, fully loaded was great car but after 13 years and 316000 km the bottom finally rotted out. Wanted to purchase Mazda Tribute but husband wanted to buy "North American"/Canadian vehicle so in 2011 purchased 2007 Pontiac Torrent. In Sept. my daughter kept saying something smells mouldy!! After checking out the SUV I couldn't find anything, until I checked the spare tire compartment in mid November and found 4-5 inches of water filling the wheel well and had soaked into that awfull material the tire sits on to cushion the tire from the the metal. I had to throw that out and make another with with fiberfill. Initially I thought my husband had left the cooler spout open and had drained into the wheel well...NOT!!! My daughter started smelling "that" smell again and sure enough more water buildup was in the compartment in mid January and because of the mild winter we'd had it wasn't frozen either. So now there's no warranty of course, and I have to bring it to an "Auto Body Shop" to see if it's the sunroof drain hose, or the roof rack sealer on the screws, or the sealer on the weld or spot welds across the back of the vehicle under the bumber is rusted and letting in water. I'm not trusting the dealerships here because they gouge you so hence the auto body shop. I've read online that GM has had this problem with MANY Torrents and Equinox from 2006, so why would they not have fixed this issue from back then... My husband convinced me to purchase "north American" but I will think twice next time around for sure!!! Anyone have a "cheap" fix for this, I'd really appreciate it...thanks

I have owned my 2007 Torrent for about 1 year. Just this past month I decided to clean out the wheel well and noticed a lot of water holding at the bottom, toward the bumper. The insulated pad that is placed under the wheel was totally drenched. I believe this problem existed prior to my owning the vehicle as it appears attempts had been made to correct the problem. The build up of water leaves a moldy smell in the car and I am afraid of the vehicle developing rust. I am hoping this is under warranty.

When it is warm outside the water that builds up in the wheel well splashes back and forth. Now that it is winter time it has frozen and I have discovered that my spare wheel is now frozen to the ice that has formed. I am sure this is not good for my spare tire and if I have a flat I will be in trouble not only being able to get the spare tire unstuck, but if I can get it unstuck, I am worried it will be deformed from being frozen in the ice or even damaged from being in the water for so long.
