Water Leaks In

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Aura’s issues with brakes, such as worn out rotors, isn’t as severe as the prior model year, but let’s just not start awarding them any brake awards just yet. Does that even exist? “The Brakies”?

One thing the 2008 does share with the 2007 is a recall of a busted gear shifter cable which can make it look like your car is in park, when the transmission is still engaged. You can only imagine what kind of fun that causes.

I bought a 2008 Saturn Aura from elderly relative (husband of relative had died & she was selling his car). The car only had about 15,000 miles even though it was 7 years old. About a month after I bought it, it rained and water started dripping from the dome light as I was driving. I called previous owner (relative) and she said that the front windshield had to be replaced a couple of years previous because it was leaking. I took it to the dealership where it was purchased new and the service tech said that it was the sunroof seal and they would re-glue it but that since it was no longer under warranty they would charge me. I complained to manager and they agreed to fix it for free. However, the very next rain it started leaking again. It has not leaked from the dome light again but the rear passenger side of my car fills up like a lake every time it rains whether it is parked or being driven. The dealership told me that there was nothing that they could do and that I needed to purchase a new sunroof seal for approximately $500. So I took it to a sunroof repair shop and the guy extended the drain hoses and blew out the lines and said it was fixed. I drove it home and the very next rain it is still leaking. I took it back to the sunroof repair shop and he tested all of the drains while I watched and they were all draining properly. By the way, he told me that the dealership service tech was an idiot for saying it was the seal since the seal only keeps out wind and noise. He said that the seal doesn't have anything to do with the rain as there are grooves that catch the rain and drain it through the tubes. He said that the leak must be coming from somewhere else but he only repairs sunroofs so didn't know what to tell me.

So after having spent several hundred dollars I still have a huge leak problem that I have no idea what is causing it so no idea as to how to fix it. I drive for Uber and cannot pick up passengers when it is raining or for a few days after it rains since it takes several days and lots of towels to get it dry. In the meantime, the inside of my windows get condensation from the humidity of having water inside the car and heat on the outside of the car. Also, the smell is not pleasant.

I would really like to know if anyone else has figured out how to fix this problem? I know that others have had the same issue but apparently it was the sunroof for some of them. Others are like me and still do not know what the cause of the problem is.

Any assistance, advice, or information will be greatly appreciated.
