My rear windshield has cracked and completely shattered 3 time in 6 months. I've had to pay out of pocket, and im tired of it....Toyota claims there is no defect, but I've read on other sites that I'm not the only person this has happened to. My front windshield is now cracked from underneath the outside molding....how many thousands of dollars do I have to spend before they recall this issue.

I bought my Scion brand new in Nov. 2005. It was my first brand new car, and I love my Xb. I have been having unacceptable problems with windshield cracks. I am currently on my 5th windshield, and today I came out and saw a new crack. Approx. 12" on the lower passenger side. The car has been parked in the driveway facing the garage door since about 530pm yesterday. Some one of the previous crack was due to a small pebble like object that lightly hit the windshield. It was instantaneously a 10" crack. My first two windshields were covered by my insurance, that last one I paid for out of pocket. With the new crack I will also have to pay for replacement unless Toyota owns up to the defect. The new crack shows no signs of impact. It grows out from under the molding and goes up, then slightly to the right, then up again. I have contacted Toyota twice hoping to get this solved. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

My windshield developed a crack starting from the top middle, directly behind the rear view mirror. The crack extended downward approximately 6-8 inches and then horizontally toward the driver's side approximately 6-8 inches, forming an "L" shape. I have no idea how this happened as I don't recall having any debris hit the windshield. 8tr

An "L" shaped crack that appeared without incident from the top section of my windshield above the rear-view mirror. Approx. 10 inches long at this point. Appears to be getting larger daily. No chips in windshield that could have caused a crack like this. I have an appointment tomorrow to have windshield replaced.

Cracked windshield on my 2006 Scion Xb. With only 3,200 miles on the car I started noticing small stress cracks starting on the side of he windshield. After I went to Scion they attributed these cracks from rock chips. The company that replaced the windshield said that their where no rock divoys in the crack line and that these was an stress issue.

My 2006 Scion Xb windshield has multiple cracks that aren't from a chip. I have heard that this is a common problem and that Toyota will not resolve it for the consumer.

On the morning of March 13, 2008 I awoke to find a large L shaped crack(approx. 1 ft long/driver's side) in the windshield of my 2006 Scion Xb. I immediately called my insurance company and they made an appointment for me to have the windshield replaced the following day(costing me a $50 deductible). I could offer no reason as to how the crack happened...it seemed to just appear(as most of the other complaints I've read on here suggest). In addition, I have owned my Xb for close to a year and a half and in that time I have had the windshield repaired 2 other times due to chips/small cracks. Judging by the data I have found on this website and elsewhere, I would definitely conclude that there is a major defect in the 2006 Scion Xb. And this is definitely a safety hazard, being that the windshield is a major component of a vehicle's safety.

Woke up to find unexplained crack in windshield in shape of "L" about foot long each side. No previous trauma to windshield. A few weeks later several more curvy cracks sprang up, starting from edge of windshield, and not connected to each other. No accidents or debris striking car. Lots of tiny flecks in glass. Paid $200 to replace.

My windshield developed a crack sitting in my driveway. Crack is about a foot long starting from the top middle of my windshield into a "L" shaped towards/behind my rear view mirror. Two days prior to the incident there was snow which lead to cold weather. I am planning to take my car to a local Scion dealer for repair. I am hesitant to replace my windshield if another crack is going to develop. No pebbles/rocks hit my windshield while driving on highways to and from work. Hopefully Scion will replace the window at no cost. There is definitely a design flaw with the 2006 Scion Xb. Others who complained had cracks develop without any material hitting the windshield.

Driving my Scion Xb down the freeway, a crack developed from the edge of the driver's side windshield and grew by 18 inches within seconds. After stopping to inspect the windshield, I found there was no impact point and this was a stress fracture. After reading internet forums and this websites complaints, I can see this is a common occurrence.

I've had to replace my windshield twice in the past six months. The first time was because of a pebble and I went to the replacement place recommended by my insurance carrier. The second time the windshield just cracked. I was driving down the road and heard this "click". thought there was a crack, but saw nothing. Next morning I got into my car and there was a crack about 3" long on the bottom, left, driver's side of the windshield. No little impact crater indicating a debris hit, just a crack. I went to one of those repair places and they did their thing, but over the course of 2 weeks the crack grew until it was about 18" long. Finally just gave up and replaced it. When I called the windshield repair place they said they get a lot of Xb calls. The windshield design is faulty causing it to keep cracking. I love my Xb and don't want to get rid of it, but also don't want to keep buying windshields!!!

Scion Xb windshield damaged repeatedly. First crack from the top and down most of the driver side, L-shaped towards the driver-side frame. No apparent cause, except possibly extreme heat. Replaced. Since then, have had two new cracks starting from the top, down and multiple (at least 5 separately occurring) rock impacts. Commute the same route as have in the previous seven years, with no similar damage/frequency to previous vehicle windshields.

My car was parked in the garage overnight. In the morning I noticed a crack on the windshield, beginning at the bottom where the glass meets the frame, in front of the approximate midpoint of the passenger seat, extending vertically upward approximately 8 - 10 inches, then traveling horizontally toward the driver's side, ending near the odometer. The crack was definitely not there when I parked the car the night before.

The windshield has been replaced twice due to L shaped cracks that developed from the side pillars. I am sure it is not because of being hit by a rock. The first time I thought I could hear the cracking sound while sitting in the car(11-05-07). The 2nd time, the car was in the garage & not driven that day. The day before, it had only been washed & put back in the garage.

I purchased a 2006 Scion Xb in March of 2006. I did not drive it much as a student but now that I've graduated I see major problems in the vehicle design. I had one pebble hit the top part of my windshield in Dec 2007 and it caused a vertical vein down the driver side of my window. I have since replaced the window and now, two months after, my windshield has again veined as a result of a pebble hitting the edge of the windshield. All of this occurred on a daily commute on the highway. Since I actually had two different brands of windshield I can only conclude that this is not a windshield problem, but rather a design defect. The shape of the vehicle leaves the windshields susceptible to cracks more than other vehicles. For a vehicle that is supposed to be economical I feel that paying over 300 dollars every couple months for a new windshield is completely unacceptable and Toyota should be held responsible.

The windshield of my 2006 Scion Xb has inexplicably cracked in a large L shape originating from the top of the windshield at the frame. The car was garaged when this happened, and had not been driven in one week. There was no recent impact from any rock, pebble or stone.

Last week I found a foot long crack on the windshield of my 2006 Scion Xb when I went out to my car after work. In researching replacement options I found multiple posts on on-line forums indicating that the crack may be due to a design flaw. The crack begins near the rear view mirror and curves toward the driver's side with a total length of approximately 16-18 inches.
