The 2008 Toyota Scion xB was bought new for my son in late 07. 12-15-09 he was driving down the road and his foot got locked I mean literally trapped under the brake and he could NOT dislodge it. He is not sure what exactly happened he said his foot had gotton trapped before but he got it out in time to stop. Not this time - also the car was accellerating but we are not clear if his foot was trapped and his jerking of leg accelerated it or not. In the 15 secs he had before he slammed into the car in front of him he grabbed his leg and just tore his foot from under or from under the side of brake with all his might and then tryed to swerve while braking but car was totaled and his air bag deployed so he was going at least 30miles an hour between a half a block area of his foot trapped - he could not use the other foot because of his right foot trapped with brake up.

I have taken pictures of the brake and accelerator and the mat - the brake is bent the mat is rolled and the distance between the brake and accellerator does indeed have more room than any car I have seen for a persons foot to have to move from accellerator to brake and get trapped between and or under the brake. There is something wrong with this - no ones foot should get stuck like that or why the car sped up unless his frantic motions to dislodge his foot - SOMEONE HAVE AN ANSWER I have been driving for 40 years and this never happened to me - I have a toyota camry and the brake and accellerator are more level with each other my foot would never slip under the brake peddle
